The snowboard (スノーボード sunōbōdo?) is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of boards that are built to be used on snow-like terrain.

Game appearances[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic the Hedgehog uses a snowboard at the beginning of IceCap Zone Act 1 and rides down the mountain. It is discarded after Sonic crashes into a wall.

Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, a snowboard can be used by Sonic in Robotnik Winter Zone when obtaining the Jet Board power-up. Found in Monitors, this type of snowboard allows Sonic to move at high speeds.

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure, Sonic and Tails use snowboards to outrun an avalanche in Ice Cap. Tails also uses his snowboard in Sand Hill. Sonic's is light blue with a snowflake, while Tails' is green and yellow. Metal Sonic also use one when playing as him on the appropriate stages.

Sonic Adventure 2[]

In Sonic Adventure 2, during the beginning of the Hero Story, Sonic rips off some metal from the helicopter Sigma-Alpha 2 to use as a makeshift snowboard at the beginning of City Escape. During Multiplayer, all characters in the race type use a snowboard model based after them in Downtown Race and the beginning of City Escape.

Sonic Advance 3[]

The snowboard appears in Sonic Advance 3, where Sonic is the only character that can use one. Sonic can only use one when he is partnered with Amy. The snowboard is only used for grinding on rails.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) in White Acropolis, Sonic uses a snowboard to outrun an avalanche in a similar manner to Sonic Adventure. It is bright blue with orange stripes, but not used for the whole stage. In Crisis City, Sonic uses a piece of debris in its place.

Sonic Rush Adventure[]

In Sonic Rush Adventure, when the heroes arrive at Blizzard Peaks, Tails gives Sonic and Blaze snowboards to traverse the snowy terrains. Sonic's is blue with his head emblazoned upon it while Blaze's is purple with her head emblazoned on it.

In gameplay, Snowboards are used in Blizzard Peaks Act 1 and Hidden Island 12. While riding a snowboard, the player automatically moves forward and cannot stop or turn around. In addition, the player only jumps and use moves like the Super Boost/Fire Boost and the Trick Actions. However, the player can press left on Controlpadds to slow down. After reaching a certain point in these Acts, the snowboards are automatically discarded.

Sonic Generations[]
