A missile-launching scorpion tank

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Sasori[1] (サーソリー[2] Sāsorī?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, scorpion-based Badnik model created by Dr. Robotnik.

Appearance[]

Sasori a

Sasoris are blue scorpion-based Badniks. They each have an almost semi-circled body with a black face on the front that only shows two cartoonish black eyes, and a yellow oblong disk protruding above their heads and along their backs. They also have two large blue claws with light green caps at the joints (colored yellow in their in-game sprites) and four yellow legs behind their claws which have small blue wheels on the tips. Their primary weapon is a laser gun which they each have for a mechanical tail.

Overview[]

Sasori-Animation

Sonic facing off against Sasori, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Sasoris appear as enemies in Quartz Quadrant. In gameplay, they roll left and right along ground within a fixed area. When the playable character gets near them however, the Sasoris will raise their tails and fire their energy projectile straight ahead of them.

In the Bad Future or sometimes in the Present timeframe of the Rounds, these Badniks have broken down due to age; they display several cracks in their armor and are missing the laser gun-based tails. These Sasoris are unable to fire their projectiles, although they will attempt to, rendering them almost defenseless. Otherwise, the player can destroy them with a Spin Jump, Spin Dash or Spin Attack. Also, like every Badnik in the game, they are powered by Little Planet flower seeds which will pop out of them after they are defeated.

A Sasori also appears in the ending sequence that plays during the credits. Here, it attacks Sonic in Quartz Quadrant by firing a missile at him. Sonic, however, avoids the missile and jumps in front of the Sasori, before starting to run in circles around it. As the Sasori's head starts to spin, Sonic takes advantage of this by stomping on the Sasori's laser gun and pointing it at its own head. Afterward, the Sasori fires its cannon, destroying itself and releasing its Little Planet flower.

Powers and abilities[]

The Sasoris have laser guns equipped to their tail tips which can fire small energy bullets.

Trivia[]

  • "Sasori" is the Japanese word for "scorpion".
