The Sol Dimension[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the home dimension of Blaze the Cat and many others, as well as a parallel dimension in the multiverse that is linked to Sonic's universe.[2] Several artifacts of nearly unlimited power reside here, such as the Sol Emeralds and the Jeweled Scepter.

Description[]

Most of the Sol Dimension remains largely unknown. Holding a universe similar, but not parallel to Sonic's,[3] its most prominent location is earth, the home planet of Blaze the Cat.

History[]

Present[]

During the Sol Emerald incident, the evil Dr. Eggman came to earth in the Sol Dimension and stole the Sol Emeralds from Blaze. As she chased the doctor, the cat was lead to earth in Sonic's universe by the Emeralds,[4] where the villain had taken them. While she retrieved the Sol Emeralds, they and the Chaos Emeralds would the Sol Dimension into Sonic's universe, causing the dimensions to slowly merge and create a tear in the space-time continuum, which would result in the destruction of both universes. After recovering the Sol Emeralds and Super Sonic and Burning Blaze defeated Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega though, the disruptions stopped and both worlds were restored to normal, with Blaze returning to hers.

When the Jeweled Scepter incident came around, Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega threatened the Sol Dimension again as they sought the Power of the Stars on that world's earth and sent Captain Whisker's crew out to obtain the key to this power, the Jeweled Scepter, which Blaze tried to keep safe. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails ended up on the cat's planet (presumed to be because of the Sol and Chaos Emeralds), specifically on Southern Island, while out investigating a storm. With Marine the Raccoon, they eventually met Blaze as Whisker stole the Scepter. The heroes thus teamed up to track down Whisker's hideout, where they got the Jeweled Scepter back after a final showdown. Eggman and Eggman Nega took it back soon after though, and unlocked the Power of the Stars, but Super Sonic and Burning Blaze defeated them. With the peace restored, Sonic and Tails returned home.

Archie Comics[]

Seagull Island Archie Comics

Southern Island in the Sol Zone, from Sonic Universe #22.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Sol Dimension was the home universe of Blaze the Cat and Marine the Raccoon and was informally known as the Sol Zone. Like in the games, the Sol Zone was home to the Sol Emeralds and the Jeweled Scepter, the latter of which linked the Sol Zone to the Prime Zone. This Zone was first encountered by Sonic and Tails, who aided Marine and Blaze retrieve a Chaos Emerald from Johnny, Captain Whisker and Dr. Eggman Nega. Later, Shadow the Hedgehog ended up in the Sol Zone with Metal Sonic, where he teamed up with Blaze and Marine to destroy the robot, before returning home.

When the Super Genesis Wave re-wrote history, the Sol Zone survived thanks to the power of the Jeweled Scepter. While its timeline still became nearly identical to that of its game counterpart, many elements from the previous timeline merged with it, including the Wily Egg and Captain Metal, the latter who Team Rose had to battle for a Sol Emerald.

IDW Publishing[]

Blaze's World (IDW)

Blaze's dimension, from Sonic the Hedgehog #30.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, the Sol Dimension is simply known as Blaze's dimension,[6] and is the home dimension of Blaze the Cat and the Sol Emeralds. Blaze's world itself is ruled by the Sol Empire. At the end of the Metal Virus pandemic, Sonic ended up on Blaze's world as a result of using the Warp Topaz with the power of Super Sonic, where he lost his memory. Blaze, however, managed to bring Sonic's memory back to him with the help of the Sol Emeralds, and sent him back to his world.

2021 Cover Stories[]

In the 2021 Cover stories from Sonic Channel, The Sol Dimension makes an apperance in the November story where Blaze the Cat is fighting off pirates at Coral Cave. In the 2021 stories, the Sol Dimension's history and background is identical to the one found in the games, and is ruled by the Sol Empire. Sonic the Hedgehog soon appears, having been bought to the Sol Dimension once more by the seven Chaos Emeralds. After Sonic helps Blaze out with protecting the Jeweled Scepter, the Sol Emeralds lend their power to restore the Chaos Emeralds, who had been drained of their energy, and return Sonic back to his own world.
