Change forms with a Nega-Wisp for the berserker Frenzy form!

Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic Colors (Wii)

The Purple Frenzy (パープル・フレンジー Pāpuru furenjī?), also known as the Frenzy form, is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the Color Power gained by absorbing a Purple Wisp and its Hyper-go-on, which turns the user into a berserk creature.

Appearance[]

Purple Frenzy Intro

The Purple Frenzy, from the Wii version of Sonic Colors.

When using the Purple Frenzy, the user turns into a glowing purple, demonic being that constantly gives off a dark and sinister aura. In Sonic's case, his entire body turns into a large and longer version of his own head, except his eyes do not have pupils and are yellow, his ears do not have ear canals, and his muzzle turns into a serrated mouth with sharp teeth that extends far behind his eyes. His quills have also become more curved with slightly split ends, making him look much more demonic. Also, underneath his body lie four quills stationed in the frontal and posterior.

Overview[]

Sonic as the Purple Frenzy in Asteroid Coaster, from the Wii version of Sonic Colors.

The Purple Frenzy appears exclusively in the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and later its remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate. In this game, the Purple Frenzy can first be used in Asteroid Coaster Act 1. In gameplay, using the Purple Frenzy turns the user in a being that can instantly destroy any enemy and obstacle that cannot be destroyed otherwise, such as Chroma Cubes, upon contact. For every unspecified set of targets consumed, the Purple Frenzy will grow one size, until it has had a total of three growth spurts. However, the larger the Purple Frenzy gets, the slower its movements will be. When the Purple Frenzy is at maximum size, the player will pull in nearby Rings, similar to the Lightning Shield. In 3D sections of the Acts however, the Purple Frenzy constantly shifts directions on its own rather than staying on a straight path, meaning it requires constant realignment from the player. Also, after utilizing the Purple Frenzy for a few moments, the player will be awarded with 8,000 Color Bonus points for each second the Purple Frenzy is active.

To use the Purple Frenzy in gameplay, the player must possess a Purple Wisp. If the player is in an area not suited for the Purple Frenzy however, the Purple Wisp will go dormant (which is illustrated by its on-screen icon sleeping), thus preventing the player from becoming the Purple Frenzy. Once transformed into the Purple Frenzy, the player's Wisp Gauge starts to deplete, and once it runs out, Sonic will revert back to normal. To extend its duration, the player has to collect more Purple Wisps.

When using the Purple Frenzy in gameplay, the player has the following controls:

Powers and abilities[]

As the Purple Frenzy, the user gains powerful jaws that can chew through any robot’s armor and other durable obstacles that even Sonic cannot smash with a single hit. The Purple Frenzy can also consume any matter the user bites off and add it to their own mass, allowing the Purple Frenzy to grow larger for each bite until reaching maximum size (which is about three-to-four times the Purple Frenzy's original size). When reaching maximum size, the Purple Frenzy also gains a suction breath that let the user suck in smaller objects not too heavy or rooted to the ground. The Purple Frenzy is also capable of levitating a small distance above the ground, which is how it travels around without legs.

Weakness[]

The main weakness of the Purple Frenzy is that it can only be used for a few seconds and requires more Hyper-go-on from Purple Wisps to be maintained.

Trivia[]

  • As hinted in the Sonic Colors manga, users who have turned into the Purple Frenzy do not recall any actions while in this form after they return back to normal.[1]
  • The Purple Frenzy is the only Color Power on the Wii version of Sonic Colors that is not featured in Eggman's Sonic Simulator.
    • Because of this, it is one of only two Color Powers that cannot be combined with others in the 2 Player mode of the Simulator, the other being the Blue Cube.
  • If the Purple Frenzy does not eat anything for a short while, Sonic will start hopping and barking like a dog while moving.
