Zeena is the fourth boss that appears in Frozen Factory in both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS...

|description||S-Rank Time: 4 minutes 50 seconds
This is the second video of this game I put up, and already here's a gimmick stage. (Don't worry, there are not as many as it may seem.) In this stage, Sonic Spin Dashes to coat himself in a thick layer of snow, and for the rest of the stage--including the boss--he will remain as a huge snowball. How hypothermia never kicks in, I'll never know.
Sonic's basic moves are the same as the snowball: He can move about, jump, collect Rings, Spin Dash, and destroy enemies. The snowball's size, however, puts a profound effect on Sonic: It's big and heavy, and it carries a bunch of momentum. He accelerates slowly, decelerates slowly, can barely jump, and lacks a Homing Attack, but he can defeat any enemy (except the boss) in one hit. Because he's always spherical, he's also prone to being shoved around. The Cluckoids, Bombs, and those yetis take full advantage of this vulnerability. You can also kill Sonic by letting one of those metal lids on the steam vents fall on him, but you will never accidentally kill Sonic in that way.
Now, one thing I should really mention before I say anything else: This game copies Mario's run controls, where your default pace is a walk, but you can hold down a run button to make your character go faster. As the snowball, Sonic also has two speeds too. Without it, you will truly struggle in this stage as you constantly butt heads with the Cluckoids--and unsuccessfully so with the big yetis--and futilely try to outrun the Crabmeats' homing missiles.
Rings in this stage are gathered differently than anywhere else in the game: Instead of collecting them normally, they get stuck to the snowball (and hence it immediately looks like Katamari), then cashed in on the next checkpoint you hit. This is why there are so many checkpoints in this stage, besides the fact that it's long. What this means is that Sonic can only take damage once before reaching the next checkpoint--tough if you find a buch of Crabmeats.
The cue balls, by the way, give you a Red Star Ring on the normal stage the first time you sink all of one set in one go. There are two sets: One near the beginning with a narrow lane, and one near the end with a wider one. Sonic goes at his maximum snowball speed automatically, so if you miss one, you'll have to try the stage again for another chance.
Except for Lava Mountain and Hidden World, each even-numbered stage ends in a boss fight. (Said stages also have that boss taunting you periodically.) Frozen Factory Zone 2 has your first fight against Shego--I mean Zeena. She apparently spends more time keeping herself looking pretty than trying to get rid of Sonic, and it shows a bit here in that she cannot directly harm Sonic. She can only stall him out. This is trouble when you're playing Time Attack, like what you see here.
The way the fight works may not be entirely clear looking at this video, so I will explain. Zeena will deploy a bunch of snowmen on the field. Some have bombs on their heads, and some do not. Once Sonic destroys all of the snowmen without bombs (by Spin Dashing), Zeena will emerge out of the last one and run away from Sonic. Sonic just has to make physical contact with Zeena to damage her, upon which she'll retreat back underground and deploy more snowmen. Hit Zeena three times to win. After you've hit her twice, she'll start retreating at a different angle than where Sonic faces, which is significant as Sonic is still stuck barging forward with his Spin Dash as she runs somewhere safe.
If you hit any snowmen with bombs on their heads, or you take too long trying to bash all of the bare snowmen, the formation will be reset with whatever is the next one on Zeena's list. Each formation is a bit harder to lure Zeena out from than the last, but not necessarily slower--you'll see I deliberately hit the bomb-snowmen sometimes to reset to a more suitable formation.
4 minutes 50 seconds sounds generous, but it's actually pretty strict--since there's no score to pursue, S-Rank times are most often on the very difficult side of things. It reminds me of Sonic Adventure 1's bonus requirements for Sonic's stages, which were just as demanding.
A bit of trivia here: This is the first of Sonic's stages to be in 3/4 time, excluding final boss stages (Death Egg Sonic 2, Nonaggression, The Core) and hub stages (Spagonia). You can argue Fakery Way and Mephiles, but Sonic never encounters them.
Zeena is voiced by Stephanie Sheh. She is best known for voicing Orihime Inoue in Bleach. She has also voiced Hinata Hyuga in Naruto and Eureka in Eureka Seven. Yeah, she tends to get typecast as shrinking violet characters.Requested by strategist9
