This article is about the boss in Sonic Rush. For the boss from Sonic Rivals, see Egg Turtle (Sonic Rivals).

The Egg Turtle[1] (エッグタートル Eggutātoru?) is the boss of Water Palace from Sonic Rush. It is the second boss for Sonic the Hedgehog and the fourth for Blaze the Cat. It is controlled by either Eggman Nega (when playing as Sonic) or Dr. Eggman (when playing as Blaze).

Appearance[]

Despite its name, the Egg Turtle bears a closer resemblance to a plesiosaur. It has a white part on its head, which is where the Egg Mobile is located. Its color scheme varies depending on the chosen character:

Sonic: The Egg Turtle's flippers, shell and spikes are green. The spikes on its shell have yellow tips. Most of its body is gray, while its underside, neck, and the rotor on its back is red.

Blaze: The Egg Turtle's flippers, shell and spikes are purple. The spikes on its shell have pink tips. Most of its body is gray, while its underside, neck, and the rotor on its back is cyan.

Battle[]

The battle with the Egg Turtle is fought on a submerged circular arena with four groups of three rings hovering above it. Although the majority of the battle occurs underwater, it is impossible for the player to drown. The Egg Turtle will perform the following moves:

  • Belly slam: The Egg Turtle will follow the player in the water until it swims right above them. It will then surface for a short moment and then try to "bellyflop" on top of them. To avoid this, the player must use the Spin Dash/Burst Dash or run in the opposite direction as the boss cannot turn around while attacking. Because the fight occurs on a circular arena, the player cannot outrun the Egg Turtle when it performs this particular attack in most cases. In the rare cases where the player is able to outrun the Egg Turtle long enough, the boss will simply keep swimming without attempting to attack and then proceed to use one of its other attacks.
  • Head slam: The Egg Turtle will swim into the center of the arena and will try to slam its head onto the player. All the player must do is simply move to the side when its head approaches, and then return and land a Spin Jump/Axel Jump on top of it.
  • Snake head attack: For this attack, the Egg Turtle will drain the arena of its water. It will then extend its head like a snake and approach the player slowly. Once it is at a certain distance away from them, it will snap its jaws at the playable character, leaving it open to attacks to its cockpit. The player should try and attack it fast, as after it has snapped its mouth, the head will recoil back to its body and the arena will be flooded with water again.

While not a dangerous hazard, the propeller on the back of the Egg Turtle can harm the player if they come into contact with it while it is spinning.
