An abandoned amusement park. A Zone with speed and excitement where you can ride coasters to advance.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble[1]

Sunset Park Zone (サンセットパーク・ゾーン[1] Sansetto Pāku Zōn?) is the second Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble. As with other stages in this game, Sunset Park consists of two standard acts followed by a shorter, third act which contains the Zone's boss.

Description[]

Sunset Park Zone is a giant abandoned amusement park[1] used by Dr. Robotnik to trap Sonic and Tails. It has rusty titles and Spin Coasters. It also has rusty rails which is actually roller coaster rails.

Story[]

Following Knuckles' trap from Great Turquoise Zone, Sonic and Tails land in Sunset Park Zone, where they continue their pursuit of Dr. Robotnik.

Making their way through the Zone, Sonic and Tails soon find the Marve-Shupopolous-Gou, and ride it to its head, which they subsequently defeat. Sonic and Tails then Spin Dash off the train and head to Meta Junglira Zone.

Gameplay[]

Ladybuggies patrol the rails in Spin Coasters, which Sonic or Tails can expropriate after destroying their robotic occupants. Vertical wind turbines siphon power from the ochre air's breezes, though the player has to be careful around them; while the towers will not damage them on their own, they will knock Sonic or Tails out of their Spin Attack, leaving them vulnerable to other hazards.

Sunset Park Zone's boss is one of the most popular from any 8-bit Sonic game, largely because of the background music. Instead of facing Sonic and Tails himself, Dr. Robotnik deploys larger, tougher, nastier Badniks as boss robots.

After passing the Goal Post of Act 2, Sonic ends up standing on top of the cargo containers of an immense robotic train. This leads immediately into Act 3, when the train departs. Automatic scroll kicks in, and the player must race along the back of the moving locomotive, leaping between cargo cars and dodging waves of flying Bombaberry Badniks. Eventually, the player reaches the front car, and has to smash the robotic train's engine thrice while dodging shots from the rear-facing cannon.

Chaos Emerald locations[]

The Chaos Emerald monitors in Sunset Park Zone can be found in the following locations:

  • Act 1: The Chaos Emerald monitor is atop the last loop before the end of the Act; use the Spring to the loop's left to reach the top.
  • Act 2: Run over the two small hills following a railcar and bridge, and use the Spring to reach a high ledge on the screen's right side. There, the player will find the Chaos Emerald monitor.
