The third iteration of Yu Suzuki's seminal 1986 racing game, OutRun. The game was released in a dual cabinet that could be linked with up to three others for a total of eight players. Two years later, the game was ported to the Mega Drive.
Giant Sonic billboards line the side of the track in the first area. In the Sega Mega Drive version, Sonic and Tails fly by in a pair of Tornado planes and sprinkle the Sega logo onto the screen.

High Seas Havoc (Captain Lang) (1993)

An action-adventure platformer about a pirate seal named Havoc (Captain Lang in the Japanese release) who must rescue his sidekick Tide and the damsel Bridget from the evil pirate walrus Bernardo, who is trying to find Emeralda (essentially a Chaos Emerald). Havoc's design greatly resembles Sonic's and Bridget's resembles Amy's. The levels of the game are divided into "acts", much like Sonic games, and many of the levels themselves are streamlined to sprint across easily, most notably the first level, which resembles Emerald Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. There is also a ten-minute time limit to complete each level, treasure chests that act like item boxes, and golden emeralds to collect. High Seas Havoc

A soccer game from Sega. One of the first slew of titles to sport the J.League license, which had only just been established.
At the splash screen, a soccer-kicking Sonic messes with the Sega logo. Incidentally, when Sega sponsored J.League team JEF United Ichihara, they used that same Sonic logo on the shirt.[1]

The second in Sega's strategy RPG series. The original Shining Force was developed by Climax, but the next two sequels were developed by Sonic! Software Planning which later changed their name to Camelot due to often being mistaken for Sonic Team.
After the final battle has been won and the credits have rolled, if the player lets the game sit on the closing scene for about five minutes, they can access a secret hidden battle. Bringing up the map shows that the arena is in the shape of Sonic as he appears in the Sonic! Software Planning logo.

Popful Mail: Magical Fantasy Adventure (1993)

Nihon Falcom's comical action RPG where the rambunctious Mail and her companions wreak havoc, hunt treasure, and eventually save the world.
In an early cutscene, the heroine, Mail, examines a bulletin board which features a tiny Sonic drawing in the top-right corner.

An animal enemy in the game named "Pebbler" is most likely based off of Sonic as it has blue quill-like features and red feet. It also attacks by spinning into a ball, like Sonic.

Gunstar Heroes (1993) Sega Mega Drive A run n gun game made by Treasure that became widely known for its gameplay. One of the game's bosses, Seven Force, has a phase that revs up and performs Spin Dashes, not unlike Sonic. This attack is referred to as "Hyper Sonic Spin" in-game. Additionally, one of the other boss's phases is referred to as "Tails Force," which may be a homage to Tails.

There's a Sonic ornament hanging from the rear-view mirror, just like in Rad Mobile. However in this Sega Saturn version, the ornament changes after every 100 races: Sonic is the default, followed in order by Tails, Mighty, Eggman, Mecha Sonic, Ray, Amy, Metal Sonic, Knuckles and Super Sonic.

A run n gun-game made by Treasure, the same company that created Gunstar Heroes. Seven Force, one of the bosses which is taken from Gunstar Heroes, does Spin Dash-like movements and resembles Sonic when doing said move in general (not unlike the same boss from the former title). Concept art of the game also reveals that the boss was planned to have a phase called "Sonic Force" or "Sonic the Seven Force" which greatly resembled Sonic in appearance.

In the Sega Saturn version, the player can pit Jacky Bryant against Sarah Bryant (or vice versa) to access a hidden stage called Chicago. There is a brick wall in the background with graffiti all over it, including a doodle of Sonic.

One of the enemies Harry Hedgehog, is a fast moving, blue hedgehog, much like Sonic. When Yoshi gets to close, Harry Hedgehog will swell up and become impossible to swallow. Harry Hedgehog could be Nintendo's response to Sega's constant insults toward them.

Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite from Sonic the Fighters appear as hidden characters, along with the South Island and Aurora Icefield (albeit without the ice walls) arenas (strangely, Aurora Icefield features the background music of Flying Carpet). Bean and Bark can be unlocked after clearing the "Muscle" submode of the arcade mode. They play like the regular Virtua Fighter characters in the game, though Bean can use his bombs. Bark's alternate costume is a Santa Claus outfit, while Bean's is the original Bin from Dynamite Dux.

Players control Ryo Hazuki in his continent-spanning search for the man who killed his father. A very unique and richly detailed adventure game in which traditional mechanics take a backseat to exploration.
The player will find scattered around Yokosuka's three major areas gashapon machines which contain various toys based on Sega lore. In Sakuragaoka in front of Abe's Store is the Sonic the Fighters machine, where figures based on characters from that game can be obtained. The series includes two models of Sonic along with one of Dr. Robotnik and the other playable characters such as Tails, Fang, Amy Rose, Knuckles, Bark and Bean. Win fourth prize on the Dobuita Tomato store raffle and the player can score the rare Super Sonic or Metal Sonic figurines. In front of the You Arcade in Dobuita and also in the New Yokosuka Harbor Tomato store lounge, the player can find the Wakuwaku Sega World machines, which contain figurines from all eras of Sega history. Among the toys in this machine are NiGHTS (two models), as well as a Chao set.

An in-line skating game in which the player starts a graffiti gang of "rudies" called the GG's. They fight for turf with rival gangs in Tokyo-to by tagging their territory with graffiti, all while trying to evade the city's police force.
Players can tag with stock art of the characters (Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, E-102 Gamma, Big and Chao) from Sonic Adventure via Internet download. Sonic also appears on a billboard in the game's ending cutscene.

With a rare item called the "Chao soul", Mags can be raised to look like a Chao or Omochao. A rare weapon called the "Sonic Knuckle", when equipped, looks just like Knuckles' gloves. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman have made cameo appearances in the online lobbies on several occasions, and there have also been downloadable quests in which the player interacts with the heroic trio.

One of the game's bosses, named "Zodick the Hellhog", is a big blue beast that bears more than a passing resemblance to Sonic. The Japanese Sega Saturn startup sound can be heard before and after the battle. He spouts gold Rings when he takes damage. After his defeat, it is revealed he is a robot, and one of the scientists controlling him is voiced by Ryan Drummond.

A role-playing simulation game in which players manage the affairs of a struggling video game company called Sega.
Sonic appears with some other well-known Sega mascots in the opening, such as Alex Kidd and Amigo and among the possible tasks in the game is the development of a title called "Sonic the Hedgehog.". At one point, Sonic appears with Tails in the air, when he drops down, he takes the player on a wild run. He also appears when Alex Kidd was telling his story about being replaced by the blue hedgehog. At one point, the player also fights Sonic.

However, according to an interview with the game's creator, Hideki Kamiya, he stated that it was completely random and he didn't even know that Sonic's enemy was called Eggman. The game's currency, Halos, bear a striking resemblance to Rings. When Enzo is explaining about the jewels known as the Eyes of the World, a gem that looks a great deal like the gray Chaos Emerald is shown.

Another reference was present in one of the sub-events on the nation of Planeptune, where a herd of "speedy blue hedgehogs" run past by the heroines. The group observes that the herd went to a pachinko-resembling building, referencing the frequent casino-themed levels in the series at the time. A sandbox video game where players explore, interact with, and modify a dynamically-generated map made of blocks. On 22 June 2021, Sonic the Hedgehog DLC was released for the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft. the DLC contains a custom world including Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, and Sky Sanctuary Zone alongside a Chao Garden and 24 Sonic-themed skins.
From 12 July 2021 to 26 July 2021, an additional event was held on the Minecraft-endorsed server, called The Hive. The event allowed players to collect Rings in a Green Hill Zone-themed hub to unlock an additional Sonic skin for exclusive use in the server, alongside cosmetics for minigames and a special Sonic-themed minigame, where players interacted in 6 Sonic-themed levels. On May 23, 2023, a texture pack was released that changed several Mobs and objects with the design of Sonic characters, which received an update called Trails & Tails on July 14, 2023, adding several new objects, and three new Mobs, two being Chao-themed.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (2021)

An update to Phantasy Star Online 2. To mark the release of Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a crossover event was held from 1 September 2021 to 29 September 2021. Login bonuses and other collaboration items included stamps originally from Sonic -Easy to Use Stickers- and Sonic-themed cosmetics and emotes for the player character. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania (2021)

A remake of three of the original Super Monkey Ball games with new features. Like in Banana Blitz HD, Classic Sonic is once again playable, but now Classic Tails is too. Like in Banana Blitz HD, Rings are to collect, instead of Bananas. The balls they move around in are blue (for Sonic) and yellow (for Tails).
Sonic and Tails also appeared in the animated launch trailer for the game, and are depicted based on Tyson Hesse's designs for Sonic Mania animated works.[21]

Cookie Run: Kingdom (2021)

A mobile RPG and town-building game. A crossover event with the Sonic series ran from September 17, 2021 to 16 October 2021. In the special event mode, "Sonic's Green Hill", players spend Power Sneakers to play through stages based on Green Hill. Rings can be collected in the stages, and each one features Doctor Eggman as the boss encounter. In "Sonic & Tails' Lucky Item Boxes!", players can spend Rings to win various rewards, including the Chaos Emeralds. When all seven Chaos Emeralds are collected, the choice of either Sonic Cookie or Tails Cookie is unlocked for play. Both characters have the Spin Dash as their special skill. Special Sonic and Green Hill-themed items were also available for a limited time to decorate the player's kingdom, such as palm trees, chili dog stands, and Rings. Starting 26 November 2021, a crossover event with the Sonic series began, which includes two special event quests where the player can collect Rings and run around to music from the Sonic series. Completing the quests will unlock themed costumes, including the "Sonic Wear" layered armor for the playable Hunter and the "Canyne Tails" layered armor for their Palamute. Palicos can wear the "Sonic Costume", which will enable them to perform a Spin Dash. When using a Felvine Bulb on a Palico, they will transform into Super Sonic. KartRider Rush+ (2021)

A kart racing game where you can unlock decals for your car. Most of the characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, with the exception of Dr. Eggman, who rides the Egg Booster, are on foot in this game, rather than in a go-kart. The game features six playable characters from the series: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Eggman, and a Chao. Sonic is the only one who can be unlocked for free by completing in-game missions and collecting shards. Tails and Chao are available through the Season Pass, Knuckles and Shadow can be unlocked with Red Star Rings, and Eggman is unlocked after unlocking all the characters in the series.

The game also added cosmetic items related to Sonic, which could be unlocked by entering a special code which would be valid until 3 May 2022, depending on the player's region.[24].

From 11 August 2022 to 15 August 2022, a new season titled "Sonic's Adventure Event" was added to the game and its accompanying featured show is titled "Gotta Go Fast", titled after the Sonic X English theme song. This update included costumes of Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Super Sonic, alongside a new area called "Bean Hill Zone", designed after Green Hill Zone. Participating in the season and completing the set challenges (which are all named after well known quotes associated with the four featured characters) earns the characters rewards, which are represented with a green Chaos Emerald icon. One is a nameplate with a Green Hill Zone background and a stylized icon of Classic Sonic's face based on a piece of artwork from Sonic Mania. A free, fan-made fighting game released on Steam which features several VTubers from the talent agency, Hololive, as fighters. One of the unlockable color palettes for Inugami Korone is based on her Sonic-themed outfit that she used for playing Sonic games.[26]
Said outfit, where the color palette was based on, was officially commissioned by SEGA for the VTuber in celebration for her becoming the official brand ambassador for the Sonic franchise.

The follow-up to the original Samba de Amigo. The game features two Sonic songs in the base game: "Escape from the City" and "Fist Bump", with three additional songs--"Open Your Heart", "Reach for the Stars (Re-Colors)", and "I'm Here"--available as DLC, as well as Sonic-themed costumes and accessories.
Playing any of the Sonic songs will feature Amigo dancing alongside Sonic in City Escape with various backdrops, including stage-themed platforms, artwork of Amigo in the warning sign design from Sonic Generations, and the GUN Military Truck appears if the player maintains a combo.
