Flicky Island[1][2] (フリッキーアイランド[3] Furikkī Airando?), also known as Flickies' Island, is a location in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. According to legend, the island is home to precious gems, including the Chaos Emeralds. It is also the home of special Flickies from another dimension, who travel to the island through Dimension Rings to gather food, and whose existences are closed tied to the Chaos Emeralds' location.[4]

Description[]

Flicky Island has a highly variable environment with jungles, ancient temples, icy mountains and volcanoes.

History[]

Past[]

Flicky Island was created when the remains of the fabled continent of Atlantis rose up from the depths of the sea, the Rusty Ruin Zone being a testament to its origin.[5]

Detecting the Chaos Emeralds on Flicky Island, Dr. Robotnik came to the island and discovered the island's unique Flickies who traveled between worlds using Dimension Rings.[6] Seeing the possibility of gathering the Chaos Emeralds using the Flickies, Robotnik established his operations on Flicky Island, setting up numerous bases around the island, as well as building the "Dimension Ring Generator" to gather Flickies and turn them into Badniks.[4]

Hearing legends that the Chaos Emerald were located on Flicky Island, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles traveled there. Noticing the Badniks infesting the island, Sonic rushed off to rescue the Flickies and collect the Chaos Emeralds which had yet to fall into Robotnik's hands.[4] Eventually, Sonic entered the main base and defeated Robotnik in his final weapon. He then used the Dimension Ring to return to Flicky Island, along with the Flickies.

At some point, Witchcart would launch an invasion of the island with the intention of capturing the Flickies to learn their secrets for evil usage. She also built rails running all over the island to allow easier usage of her Minecar, remodeled the statue of Eggman in the Panic Puppet Fortress to resemble herself, and commanded her minions, the Witchcarters, to capture and bring her the Flickies.[7]

Sonic and Tails would visit the island for a vacation. Upon arriving in Green Grove, however, the duo quickly noticed the absence of the Flicky birds, and the presence of the large rail tracks and crystals, which led Tails to the conclusion that Witchcart had invaded. Sonic, however, foolishly dashed off without Tails, leading to an encounter with the Witchcarters which ultimately resulted in his capture after Witchcart herself arrived and encased the hedgehog in a crystal, dragging his crystallized form off to her Panic Puppet Fortress.[7]

Witnessing this from behind a bush, Tails formulated a plan to defeat the Witchcarters, with help from some of the local Flickies which he freed. First, Tails pursued Hocke-Wulf to Spring Stadium, and after a brief scuffle, outsmarted the wolf, leaving him trapped in a pit of springs while Tails took the Repulsor Unit from his bike. Tails then tracked down Bearanger in Gene Gadget and did likewise, freeing the captured Flickies, trapping the Witchcarter, and taking elements of their vehicle. Tails then located the final Witchcarter, Carrottia, in Rusty Ruin, and managed to sneak under her vehicle and steal one of its missile launchers. Carrottia noticed this, however, and used the remaining launcher to barrage Tails. Despite this, Carrottia ended up trapped like the other two Witchcarters once her ammunition depleted, and Tails sabotaged her craft.[7]

Tails then confronted Witchcart herself in the Panic Puppet Fortress, using the machinery he had taken from her minions to give himself an edge in the conflict. Once Witchcart was distracted, Tails used the missile launcher to free Sonic from the crystal. Witchcart noticed this, and attempted a retreat, believing she could not best both heroes. While Sonic freed the remaining captured Flickies, Tails caught up to Witchcart and used the Repulsor Unit to reflect her magic back, trapping her inside a crystal. Celebrating their victory, Sonic and Tails left Witchcart to experience their vacation.[7]
