Flight Mode (フライモード Furaimōdo?, lit. "Fly Mode"), also known as Water Mode (水上モード[1] Minakami mōdo?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a technique used by E-100 Series robots to hover.

Description[]

When performing Flight Mode, Gamma, Chaos Gamma, and the Guard Robos transform their chest into a large propeller. Depending on the use, this allows them to hover a few centimeters above the surface and more slowly fall down.

When Emerl and the Phis use Flight Mode, they swing their arms around like a propeller.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure, its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, and the 2010 remaster, Flight Mode is literally named Water Mode (水上モード[1] Minakami mōdo?). In these games, it is only performed by E-102 Gamma.

In gameplay, unlike Driving Mode, Water Mode is automatically activated when Gamma walks over water, or falls to the ground between the two trains in Hot Shelter. In this state, he can still move around, jump, and lock-on targets, but he cannot grab items or Chao. After touching solid ground, Gamma will automatically switch to his normal mode again.

Sonic Battle[]

E-102's air action. It goes into flight mode and produces a propeller from its chest that enables it to hover.

— Description, Sonic Battle

In Sonic Battle, Flight Mode is Chaos Gamma' and the Guard Robos' Air Action. It can also be performed by E-121 Phis with Gamma's moveset. Emerl can randomly obtain this move as well after winning a battle against Gamma in Story Mode.

To perform Flight Mode in gameplay, the player must simply press GameboyA while in midair. Pressing Rgba will make the playable character cancel out the Flight Mode and perform an Aerial Attack (if enable), while pressing GameboyB will simply cancel it out.

Flight Mode has the following statistics in gameplay:

No. Skill Points Power Speed
150 ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ (15) 1 2
