The Forbidden Zone, referred to as the Land of the Dark in old times,[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a region on Angel Island known for being largely uninhabited.[1] It was also the location of Haven, the base of operations for the Brotherhood of Guardians.[2]

For many generations, the Forbidden Zone was designated as off limits to everyone. This was due to the fact that the Zone was also the location of the secret front door entrance to Haven, maintained by the Brotherhood of Guardians. After the introductory training of the next Guardian was complete, the current Guardian would lead him to the Forbidden Zone where Haven was and leap through a holographic wall of fire concealing the entrance, beginning the new Guardian's stage of self-reliance.[3][4]

The outer edges of the Forbidden Zone were briefly home to Black Death and the Enchantress, two wielders of dark magic. However, the two were defeated in battle by Knuckles the Echidna and Sir Connery and summarily taken away by the paladin.[1]
