Hi SSN. Joe from the Wikia Gaming team here. We were wondering if you guys and gals would object to switching the main page to a 1024 fixed width. Again, that's just for the main page - every other page would still be at full width for visitors using a resolution higher than 1024. For those higher resolution users, having a fixed width on the main page would show off more of the nice background image the wiki is using. Currently, 1024x768 is by far the most used resolution (34%) for visitors of SSN, with the next highest being 19% at 1280x800, so for a lot of people, this change would go unnoticed. So please give any feedback you have concerning this proposed changed. If the majority of the community does not want it, we'll leave the main page at variable width. Thanks. I use 1024, so it doesn't bother me either way. Could make it easier to lay out the Main Page, I guess, but I don't do that either. I'm curious, though: what is the benefit to Wikia of having fixed width main pages? -- Supermorff 22:49, December 23, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. Mystic Monkey, no you won't notice anything. This change only affects the Monaco skin. Supermorff, the benefit is mostly, if not entirely, cosmetic. Meaning it's just to improve the visual appeal of a wiki's most important and prominent page - the main page - especially on wikis using a custom skin, such as SSN.

Since there was no opposition to the proposed change, I just edited MediaWiki:Monaco.css to implement the fixed width. Cheers. JoePlay (talk) 18:52, December 29, 2009 (UTC)
