Result: Success! SNN now has a Twitter account that acts as a Sonic news wall.
With all this new Sonic info, what with the new game coming around the corner, I realized that some readers may have a little bit of trouble learning about what's new in the world of Sonic. It's kind of a strain to have to dig through the pages for some information about the new game. I was wondering if we should have a news wall or bulletin on the front page that says if there's any new information. For example, if there had been a news wall, we could've said "Deadly Six's Names Revealed!", so our users wouldn't have to dig through the pages to check if there had been confirmation of their names yet. Simply put, I think a news wall would be more convenient for our readers to learn what's new. We may have to find an admin who's willing to put the time in to do that, but if it's implemented correctly and the admins are willing to edit the page frequently, it could be a big improvement to the wiki. Time Biter "The Rift" 21:04, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Oppose. Its not difficult at all to navigate to a page to check to see if any changes were made to it. Anyone who knows how to look at a page's history should be able to see comparisons between previous revisions. If new information about something becomes available, then you should be able to just add it to the respective page(s) and be done with it -- trust the site visitors' ability to compare and contrast old and new information on our articles. I find this idea to be completely unnecessary. Lloyd the Cat"I don't die. I just go on adventures." 21:07, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

I don't mind the idea you are proposing. Not everyone knows how to check the history of the page and readers shouldn't be expected to navigate the history anyways. The main problem I have with this suggestion is that I'm not quite sure who exactly is going to update it on a regular basis. News bulletins need to be updated regularly and it will reflect poorly if we don't update it regularly. I'm also concerned about the design of the bulletin. I'd like to see you draft a design and get people to update the bulletin. If you do both, consider my vote in favor of the news wall. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 07:19, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

I know quite a few of my friends who visit this site and have absolutely no idea how to check page history. I believe I would be willing to update this regularly (you might have to drop me a reminder on my talk page every now and then, though). Besides, I'm already experimenting with something like this. -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 14:51, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Alright. So here is a (very) rough draft of it. We could have the news section on the same side as the featured articles and upcoming games. Note, this is a very rough draft, so suggestions for improvement are welcomed, assuming we get enough support. Also, it seems Unleashed would be willing to do it. Time Biter "The Rift" 15:05, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
News Layout

Note: I can't get the character header correct, and we may have a different character besides Cream. Like I said, rough draft.

I like the idea, however, I don't like Cream being the header and I prefer it to be Rouge or Blaze so it's easier to see. If you want I could help out. User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 17:27, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

That would be great! Help is appreciated. Time Biter "The Rift" 17:35, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Alright, how is this? User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 18:31, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

If we are going to go through with this, I would prefer we use official sprites. Myself 123 18:33, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

That's not an official sprite. Myself 123 18:36, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Want me to make it darker? This is an official sprite taken from an actual Sonic Battle sprite sheet. User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 18:38, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Trust me, that's not an official sprite, that's a sprite from a fan-made of a Sonic Advance-style Rouge. Myself 123 18:46, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Change the headers if you want for now. But I will be coming up with new headers that fit our theme (I'll also be changing the color tone of the theme).--SlugDrones • (Contact) 18:41, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Myself is right. The official ones are the Sonic: Battle sprites. Time Biter "The Rift" 18:48, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

That is a Sonic Battle Sprite. User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 19:01, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

It really isn't. Myself 123 19:06, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Yes. But I find the attitude rude. Time Biter "The Rift" 19:17, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Per Bullet and Unleashed. The Fresh Prince of Grooseland 17 June 2013 19:07 (UTC)

Probably the best way to do this would be to put a feed on the front page that picks up all blog posts in a newly created "News" category. Then anyone can write a News post. That's the system they use on the Young Justice Wiki, where I used to edit. -- Supermorff (talk) 07:56, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

This would be a good idea. But if I can suggest, the font could match with the other banners? Myriad looks very similar to that of the fonts in the other banners. I'm proposing that suggestion, I'm not trying to complain or offend. Still agree with the idea. MintsyWinterBlue (talk) (contributions) 16:59, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

The fonts should be in the Sonic the Hedgehog Series font so it keeps up with our theme and we all know what font it is.User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 17:23, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

When I thought about the name "Sonic News Network" in the first place, I always do think that there should be sort of news wall. Good to know, that you guys thought this now, keep going. - MarioSonic (talk) 17:48, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

I love Morff's suggestion. -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 23:08, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

I'm still concerned as to who exactly is going to be updating this. We're going to want to be very punctual when it comes to posting "news", and I'm not sure who's going to do it. It would reflect poorly if we post news days after it is first announced. I would rather not have a news wall if the interest in updating it is small. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 02:27, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

I could do it, I stay pretty updated on the Sonic news and I have plenty of free time. GraveEclipse567 02:50, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

I could do it too! User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 06:35, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Well Drones said that she'd make new headers but since not everyone can accept a total change, I thought of advancing our headers instead like the example I made here. The reason I chose Sonic instead of a new character is since News is
Newheader
supposed to be the highlight of this wiki so the highlight character should represent it. We could let a different character take the upcoming games place. I'd make more if requested and can also change em up.. --Quack 15:59, June 25, 2013 (UTC)
Those headers look fantastic. I'd love it if you revamped all the headers. Perhaps Silver can be used for the upcoming games header? He's already being used for the upcoming games template. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 22:34, June 25, 2013 (UTC)
Did somebody say revamp? Well here's the rest of 'em. I chose Blaze for the Featured User since I couldn't find a Super Sonic one. The Blaze on is my favorite, by the way. Also, If anyone's wanted these headers transparent, then I'll do that too.

Cool headers! We need an Eggman one for the Site Discussions. Also, here is what the news section can look like:

Sonic Lost World

  • news here

Other News

  • news here

I think it should be placed right under the upcoming games section. SilverPlays97 (Wall) (Contributions) 13:24, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Maybe the scroll suggested above was better. It's too plain. --Quack 15:47, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Ahem. Supermorff made a completely wonderful suggestion that pretty much everyone overlooked. I'm imagining something like the blog spotlight on Sonic Fanon Wiki. -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 18:54, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

What are you talking about? Just look at Young Justice Wiki to see what he meant. And it's not like we ignored it, I could care less how this is done, I just don't want it implemented if no one is going to update it. But yeah, Morff's option is probably best as long as random people aren't making sloppy blogs that are either poorly written, have no sources to back up their claims, or just entirely irrelevant blogs. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 11:13, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
As for the headers, it'd be cool if you could make a "Did you know" or "Fun Facts" header as well. I'm not sure how those headers would look with our buttons, though. :/ --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 11:19, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
So... I make all of the headers under your request, spending more than an hour.. and now you tell they wont go with our buttons? Well, I've never been a huge fan of those buttons, we can always change them too. --Quack 11:41, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
I was never good with judging looks. I'm not sure how exactly they'll look with the buttons, but I'd rather replace the headers before having new buttons made. I'm sure it will be fine. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 11:45, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Morff's suggestion would be great; although I suggest certain users are designated to make these blog posts. If not, maybe our administrators can help keep unwanted or sloppy blogs out of the news feed. -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 17:25, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Can I recommend that the characters be swapped around on the headers? Specifically, I don't like that Sonic, the main character of the series, is on the 'Upcoming Games' header, which is the only section that sometimes doesn't show up on the main page. Silver could by the 'Upcoming Games' guy, as it's sort of future-related. -- Supermorff (talk) 20:28, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

SplashTheHedgehog made these headers for us to use. He's making more:

- MetalMickey272

He can just simply use my headers and make them transparent, also the edges if the shape and some sprites are too fuzzy. And.. the Vector one is too neon. Apologies If I'm sounding rude. --Quack 06:36, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

  • Upcoming Games - Silver (right column)
  • What's New - Sonic (right column)
  • Featured Article - Shadow (left column)
  • Help Out - Tails (right column)
  • Poll - Amy (right column)
  • Featured User - Blaze (left column)
  • Sister Wikis - Knuckles (right column)
  • Did you Know - Cream (right column)
  • Site Discussions - Eggman (left column)

If there is too big a difference in size, we could move over Did you Know or something. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 06:46, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

Here's some transparent versions of DiscoDuck's headers. They were made by SplashTheHedgehog upon Disco's request.

- MetalMickey272

Alright since I'm back from my block, I will do very little for now since I'm going on hiatus. I'll edit more of the banners when i get it done. It will be done by the end of the day tomorrow though. User:SplashTheHedgehog/Signature3 23:57, July 2, 2013 (UTC)

Anyadmin willing to volunteer and add these headers to the main page? --Quack Like you mean it 15:12, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

Moi, if there are no objections. ;) -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 15:15, July 15, 2013 (UTC)
Go for it. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 15:26, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

One problem: The "Site Discussions" header is missing the last letter. It actually works either way, but could this get fixed? -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 15:45, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

Really liking these new headers, but like Shadowunleashed said, "Site Discussions" header could be little longer to make those two words fit in after fixing them. Is it possible? - MarioSonic (talk) 18:03, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Success! Thanks to SonicTheHedgehogDude, we now have an official Twitter account! It will act as the 'News Wall'. Alongside myself and SonicTheHedgehogDude, Shadowunleashed13, BlueSpeeder, and SpyroSonic2000 will have access to the account to update it. If another administrator would like access to the account, please contact me. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 19:57, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Wouldn't it make more sense for the news wall to be next to the "upcoming games" section? -- Shadowunleashed13 (talk) 21:21, July 17, 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 18:51, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

If there are no further comments or suggestions, I will close this discussion shortly. Big thanks to all who volunteered to keep the Twitter account running! --Bullet Francisco (talk) Contributions Editcount 18:51, July 20, 2013 (UTC)
