I think the reason that we don't see many of the characters under 18 in school because there is so much going on with the characters in the game that the creators felt that adding school into their lives would make the stories seem more compicated than they already are. Also another possibility is that the characters have learned everything they know and everything they'll need to know from their parents who seem to all be absent for some reason (one exception being Cream's mom, Vanilla). Another possibility that is totaly out there and far fetched is that they have all learned everything they need to know on their own, however it brings a lot of complexes such as why Tails would be so smart, how Amy can even aford doing shopping sprees, why Rouge mentioned her mama at one occasion, and still why Cream is the only main character in the universe who even has at least one parent. If it weren't for the fact that they all probably had parents at one point, then there might be an entire sight devoted to questioning their excistance. When it comes to these matters, it is fortunate for everyone that the Archie comics exsist where all of the characters had parents and had logical explanations as to why they disappeared in the first place or why they arn't shown as much (ie; Sonic's parents). Despite that fact, all of the characters' pasts (except Shadow) are a blur as to why they do or don't have parents, why they aren't seen at nor even confirmed on going to school, and what their origins are, but to ease everyones' already boggled minds, it is obvious that Sonic and the rest of the characters under 18 know all that they need to know at their age and everything they haven't already learned will be taught to them through life lessons (Cream may or may not be an exception, since she has a mom, but on the other hand she does hang out with Sonic and the others). And also, they are too cool for school! However, there are no confirmations as to whether or not there are any schools for humaniod animals like the Sonic crew (I didn't say Mobians beacuse that is the name of the species of the Sonic crew on the Archie world, Mobius, in which they are treated as very close and equal to the human race residing there, so they would obviously have schools and institutions for their kind, where as in the game world, officaly being named Earth, they are simpley another race described much like in the comics except that so far there is only a handfull of known characters of humanoid animals on the planet and so far it seems that humanity has gotten used to them enough to accept that they exsist but do not recognise them enough to make schools and institutions for them.
