By now, you can tell that I am a fan of the trivia sections and enjoy them. I always look forward to them in wikis but also in websites where they mark them under a "Interesting Facts" sections. I've seen alot of them and can tell you that they are always about the article in question but cannot be placed anywhere else. Wikipedia's standards for trivia state that the information in trivia help the article's subject to expand on the idea but are not important enough to be placed anywhere else. I see alot of info on the trivia sections that CAN be placed on the article's more important sections if they were just written differently to coincide with the article. But as far as they are standing now, they are a complete mess and contain information that are pointless to know, are just fan speculations, observations that are not related to the subject or are related outside of the continuity of the Sonic universe, do not add to the article in terms of learning more about it, or are just plain stupid. The trivia section needs improvement and the fact that a moderator accepts the info placed on it means that we seriously need to learn what trivia is and what should go into it. --TKGB 19:37, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I wanted to do that but I don't know who exactly are the moderators or who is in charge of this site as a whole. I can't find a list of them either. I'm practically lost when searching for who is in charge in here or who can hear me out with this issue. Since I discovered the forum, I figured this would be a good place to discuss it. ----TKGB 19:52, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

Well I thought of a solution and mentioned it to Kagi not too long ago. Similar to other "wiki projects" I would like to form a team of users and call the project Operation Easter Eggman. It will be a project that goes through each of the pages with a set of trivia rules and will fix the trivia according to those rules. Anybody in?--Milotheechidna 17:40, October 2, 2009 (UTC)

Forums: Index > General > The trivia sections need a serious clean up

I've discovered SNN sometime ago and I think this place is a nice resource of information, but the trivia that is put for many or all articles needs a serious cleanup. Whenever I go to an article, I look forward to the trivia sections but to my dismay, it is filled with unnecessary information that does not aid the article at all and can be done without. I figured that someone or some people added these without any thought to what exactly trivia is and decided to clean it up to make sure the trivia sections actually has info that is interesting and informative to the subject of the article. Well apparently I just realized that someone kept putting the info back after I deleted it, and it was to my shock that is was an administrator. This truly shocked me because if an admin accepts it as important to the trivia section, this wiki has a serious problem with what trivia means.

Trivia are info that is unimportant to be placed in the subject's research but not unimportant enough to be left out completely. The section is reserved for info about a subject that cannot be placed in an articles more important features and therefore it is miscellaneous information. These are interesting facts that add to the article. But when I go around SNN and see the trivia sections on the majority of the articles, the majority of the info is not important enough to be considered trivia. Such examples are comparing one character to another. I don't understand how comparing one character to another is important enough to the development of a character. If you wanted to add a comparison to a character, it should be about how they relate to each other development wise or story wise but most are just comparing a trait that has nothing to do with either. Just because one character has the same trait, like a certain personally that resembles another, I.E. Blaze the cat is somewhat anti-social like Knuckles, does not mean it is important enough to know and deserves a spot in the trivia section. If it was stated by a creator that Blaze's personality was inspired by Knuckles, than that would be important enough to warrant trivia matter.

I've also come across many fan related stuff as well in the trivia sections. The rules of this wiki state that fan stuff should be reserved to a userpage or a specific page but not an actual article. Yet I see the trivia sections filled with fan stuffs. One example was for Super Smash Bros. Brawl section. I removed it and no one brought it back but I found this in the trivia section.

Some Sonic fans were upset that he didn't have a Shadow pallete swap.

No how does that help the SSBB article at all? It's just fan reaction that has nothing to do with the game itself, it's development, release, or anything else related to the game. If it aided the game's article one way or another such as the creator of SSBB commented that he did not wanted to add a Shadow pallete swap even after hearing the fans demand one or something of that matter, then yes it would be appropriate.

By now, you can tell that I am a fan of the trivia sections and enjoy them. I always look forward to them in wikis but also in websites where they mark them under a "Interesting Facts" sections. I've seen alot of them and can tell you that they are always about the article in question but cannot be placed anywhere else.
