Arms is always too wrapped up in himself to do anything useful. I'm a bright spark, though, and I reckon I know how to beat you.

— Frankly, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (16-bit)

Frankly is a character that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. He is a bounty hunter Badnik created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

Appearance[]

Frankly profile

Frankly is a tall, light violet-gray humanoid robot with thick arms and legs, and a burly torso. He also has a bucket-like head with two antennas sticking out from the sides of his head. In Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (8-bit), his head is turquoise colored.

History[]

TV series[]

Past[]

SSSSSS Franly Dynamight and Skweel

Frankly and his cohorts being led to their demise, from "Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad".

In the recent past, Dr. Robotnik gathered many of his old bounty hunter Badniks, including Frankly. The doctor told them that he wanted them to catch Sonic, and if they did, he would give them one billion Mobiums. Immediately afterward, all the Badniks headed out in an attempt to catch the hedgehog when he revealed himself. Along the way, Dragon Breath told them to split into different groups to catch Sonic. Frankly went with Dynamight and Skweel. There, Sonic (disguised as a ringmaster) got Frankly and his cohorts to enter a circus tent that concealed a cliff, leaving Frankly to walk off the cliff and plummet into the ground below.[1]

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine[]

In the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dr. Robotnik assembled many of his old bounty hunter Badniks, including Frankly, and told them to kidnap the beans that inhabited Beanville so he could turn them into robot slaves using his Mean Bean-Steaming Machine. Later, Frankly was the second Badnik the player battled and defeated.

Personality[]

Frankly is an unintelligent robot, who can easily be tricked and defeated by his enemies. In contrast to his stupid nature though, he is a very violent robot, who carries out his leader's orders without question. He often compares himself to other robots, and thinks that he is superior to them, and he is not afraid of showing that. As a bounty hunter, he also loves money, and will do whatever he can in order to earn tons of Mobiums.[1]

Battle[]

Frankly is the second boss in the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

Boss guide[]

Like with the other bosses, the battle against Frankly takes place in two "dungeons" on each side, the left one being from the player and the right one from Frankly.[2] To defeat Frankly, the player has to fill his dungeon to the point where he is unable to drop any more beans. This can be done by dropping Refugee Beans into his dungeon, though Frankly himself can fill his own dungeon by accident.

During the battle, Frankly will be somewhat passive. In the 16-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, he will start the battle by filling the bottom four rows with beans. Otherwise, the player does not have to be concerned for upcoming Refugee Beans once he stops fast dropping them.

The player loses when their dungeon is full of beans. After that, they are sent to a Continue screen and given the option to play again. If they win, however, the game will lead to the next boss, Humpty.

Trivia[]

  • In this battle, Frankly has the same AI as Suketoudara from Puyo Puyo, the game on which Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is based.
  • In this battle, Frankly also has a special effect where whenever his Beans hit the floor, his dungeon rumbles. This visual effect is also used by Dragon Breath. This effect originally belonged to Zoh Daimaoh, another character from Puyo Puyo.
