You may be looking for Gem (Sonic Dash).

Gems[1] are objects that appear in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). They are small and rare crystals from Soleanna. In gameplay, the gems are optional Level Up Items in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Sonic the Hedgehog can use these gems to alter the appearance of his shoes, giving him specific Custom Actions. Gems can be purchased from the shop, but are only available after certain levels are completed.

Overview[]

When beginning the game as Sonic, the first Town Mission involves an old shoemaker named Alberto Robert. He has created the ultimate shoes, known as Custom Shoes, that use the power of Soleanna's mysterious stones to transform. He lets Sonic try out the Custom Shoes, and when the results of this test are successful, he is so proud of the shoes that he lets Sonic keep them.

While having set Sonic's Custom Shoes to utilize the Gems' abilities, the Gems changes their appearance into multiple pair of shoes resembling the Grind Shoes, all with their respective colors.

Trivia[]

  • The gems are "emerald cut", and thus look like the Sol Emeralds.
  • In the demo, it was hinted that an eighth gem, the Rainbow Gem, would have been included in the final game, but the idea was scrapped as the gem's function was never completed. However, it is believed that it would have caused Sonic to become Super Sonic.[2]
  • Due to the Action Gauge never being correctly implemented for Sonic's gems, it never drains, and as a result the gem powers can be used indefinitely.
  • In addition to slowing down objects and enemies, the Red Gem also slows the timer, making it much easier to get S Ranks in Acts.
  • Interestingly, it is possible to use a Homing Attack on the Sky Gem after the player throws it.
  • When the Thunder Guard has been activated, it will remain active, even if the player changes the Yellow Gem Level Up Item to a different Gem.
  • The Purple Gem can be used to skip certain playable characters' sections in Acts, such as Tails in Wave Ocean, and Silver in Kingdom Valley.
  • It is possible to "zoom out" the camera by activating and deactivating the Purple Gem. The camera will get stuck in its current position until the player stops activating and deactivating it.
  • The Rainbow gem was originally going to be multicolored, which was a nod to the seven Chaos Emeralds.
