The Golden Rings of Mobius,[1][2] also referred to as Mobius Rings,[3][4] are objects that appear in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. They are golden rings found around Mobius which hold strange properties.

Description[]

The Golden Rings resemble either basic and round-edged wedding rings or solid brass round rings, normally about the size of a basketball. They are apparently a naturally-occurring phenomenon on Mobius, although their origin is unspecified.[1]

While they appear nothing out of the ordinary, Golden Rings have strange properties. They contain a special form of energy referred to as "Ring Energy" which can be harnessed to fuel machines, use Giant Rings, or empower beings.[1][5][3] When harnessed by living beings, they dematerialize upon contact.[5] Remnants of their energy will as well remain in beings after usage which they can tap into later.[3] They are also capable of recording one's brain patterns, essentially creating sentient copies of said person's personality and mind inside them. Curiously, these imprints on the Golden Rings can talk and hear but lack sight.[2]

History[]

Past[]

The Golden Rings were used by Doctor Ovi Kintobor in conjunction with his Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor (ROCC) to transfer most of the evil energy on Mobius into six Chaos Emeralds.[6] During the explosion of the ROCC, Kintobor's brain patterns was somehow imprinted on a Golden Ring. Porker Lewis was able to use this Golden Ring to create the Kintobor Computer.[2]

Over the years, Sonic absorbed a great deal of Ring Energy from the Golden Rings, leaving excess energies within him. According to Tails though, this energy was also responsible for Sonic's first transformation into Super Sonic, although Sonic had absorbed so much Ring Energy that later transformations were caused purely by stress.[3]

Enter: Sonic[]

Robotnik would later use the Golden Rings of Mobius to power his Neutrino Accelerator, a device that literally sucked up all the planet's rings until Sonic destroyed it.[1]

The Sky's the Limit[]

Years later, Tails arranged the delivery of several massive Golden Rings from the Eldorado Zone in order to catch Sydney Bland. When Bland tried to steal them, their weight kept him from escaping and he was put in jail.[7]

Variants[]

Giant Ring[]

The Giant Ring is a much larger variation of the Golden Ring. These objects can be used to transport to other places provided the user has gathered up enough Ring Energy from regular Golden Rings.

Mobius Ring[]

Main article: Mobius Ring

An alien type of the Golden Rings which share their name are the Mobius Rings. These rings were created by the Drakon Empire and were placed on Mobius so the Drakons could observe the Mobians. Serving as a means of transportation like the Giant Rings, the Mobius Rings act as portals to planet Drak, the home world of the Drakons.
