Grim Zone

Sonic the Hedgehog and Metamorphia entering the Grim Zone, from Sonic the Comic #30. Art by Mike Hadley and John M. Burns.

The Grim Zone is a location that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is the home Zone of Metamorphia. It is a dark and decaying town, devoid of all sunlight (despite apparently bordering on the Emerald Hill Zone) and with rivers of flame.[1] Some time later, it was covered with Dr. Robotnik's polluting factories, although Tails claimed to remember a time when the Grim Zone was "all fields".[2]

Metamorphia lured Sonic to this Zone, where he was then attacked by Troopers. Revealing herself as a shapeshifter, she incapacitated Sonic by transforming into knockout gas, then trapped him in a Retro Block. Sonic managed to escape, and defeated Metamorphia.[1]

Although Metamorphia had her own quarters on the Death Egg II while Robotnik still ran operations on the Floating Island, she nevertheless continued to live predominantly in the Grim Zone.[3]

When Metamorphia was stripped of her powers and turned into a Badnik, she was sent to patrol the Grim Zone. When Tails passed through the zone, he managed to free her from her Badnik shell. Finally turning her back on Robotnik, she transformed one final time into a sweet and innocent bear, and set off to start a new life.[2]
