Grind Step[1] is a move used by multiple characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series that first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2. While grinding, the user jumps between parallel Grind Rails.

Description

When performing Grind Step, the user, while grinding alongside a parallel Grind Rail, does a flip over to the parallel grind at high speed, where they continue grinding. In gameplay, this move enables the player to quickly and safely switch lane when grinding in Grind Rail sections to dodge obstacles ahead on the rail, and still maintaining speed or the Sonic Boost.
