Grounder is a character who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a prominent Grounder Badnik created by Dr. Eggman and a member of the Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad. Currently, he is an employee to business mogul Breezie.
Appearance

Grounder is based on the Badnik with the same name. Grounder is colored green with two gray drills, one on each hand. He has yellow lines around his neck and upper torso, and has a gray antennae behind his head.
Grounder's current design is mostly the same as his previous one, albeit with some modifications; he no longer has cartoon-stylized eyes that look like gauges, but rather eyes that resemble screw tops. He now wears a black and white tuxedo with a giant red bow tie.
History
Early life
A long while before the Shattered World Crisis, Grounder and Scratch were assigned to pretend to hold Breezie hostage. After Sonic the Hedgehog defeated Coconuts and the Egg Antlion at the Underground Zone, Grounder, Scratch, and Breezie got in position with Sonic heading their way. Sonic quickly disposed of Grounder and Scratch, all while saving Breezie.[1]
Sometime later, the Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad was abandoned by Dr. Eggman, leaving Grounder, Scratch, and Coconuts out in the cold. However, Breezie gave home to the three by making them her assistants at the Casino Park.[1]
Shattered World Crisis

During the Shattered World Crisis, the S6 Squad found a Chaos Emerald which Grounder spotting it during a repair operation organized by Coconuts and supervised by Scratch. The trio excitedly presented it to Breezie, each with their own suggestions as to how she might employ it to her advantage. To the chagrin of his teammates, Grounder suggested that she could make a snowglobe out of it.[2] Instead, Breezie decided to organize a competition to determine who would obtain it from her.[1][2] Ground later informed Breezie of Knuckles the Echidna's illegal addition to the tournament roster. Breezie, upon seeing the roster, was pleasantly surprised however and told Grounder and Scratch to keep him on the roster.[1]
Personality
Of the members of the S6 Squad, Grounder is the least intelligent, and is often blissfully unaware of certain realities. While he performs various unspecific duties for his employers, he usually only accomplishes anything through dumb luck.
Weakness
Because of Grounder's drill appendages, his dexterity is quite the struggle, making it difficult for him to operate the simplest of devices.[1][2]
Trivia
- Grounder's design in the Post-Super Genesis Wave timeline is a combination between his original design and the Badnik it was based from, Grounder.
