The Guardian is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. They are an ancient form of robot models made of stone which originate from the era of the Ancient Echidnas. They serve as the protectors of the Lost Pyramid of Sandopolis.

Made entirely of tan stone, the Guardians resemble bulky, large-jawed humans covered in blocky armor and wearing tall hats with flaps covering their necks. They also come in different size; some are only slightly taller than the average Mobian while others are at the size of giants.

Stone Guardian STC 1

After Captain Plunder raised the Lost Pyramid of Sandopolis, a giant stone Guardian appeared to prevent anyone from entering by killing them. Sonic tried to destroy it with his "Sonic Spin Attack", but it easily recovered and punched him into the ground. Knuckles however, managed to lured it into walking into quicksand which swallowed it.[1]

A smaller stone Guardian deep inside the pyramid was discovered by Nack the Weasel who devised a way to free it and set it upon Knuckles and the Chaotix Crew. When they group realized they could not win, Knuckles used the shrinking ray that Nack left behind to shrink the Guardian down to a harmless size.[2]

The Guardians are fiercely devoted to the sacred laws prohibiting people from entering their pyramid and will punish those who break them with death. They are also very arrogant, openly boasting of their invincibility. However, they do not appear to be smart as Knuckles easily lured one into quicksand.[1][2]

Powers and abilities

The Guardians possess incredible strength and sturdiness. Even the entire Chaotix Crew, Knuckles and Sonic were completely overpowered by just one model on spate occasions. They are virtually indestructible, and even when smashed to pieces, they can easily put themselves back together.[1][2]
