The Head Slide (ヘッドスライディング,Heddosuraidingu?), also known as the Head Slide Attack (ヘッドスライディング攻撃,Heddosuraidingu Kōgeki?), is a technique used by Amy Rose and Vector the Crocodile which first appeared in Sonic Advance. When performing this move, the user slides along the ground head first to attack foes head-on.
When using the Head Slide, the users move forward at moderately high speed before falling down on the ground on their stomach, and slide along the ground for a short while, before coming to a standstill. Any enemy they come into contact with while sliding are then either damaged or destroyed. In most cases, performing the Head Slide will cause the user to be enveloped in an energy field. For users such as Amy, however, the Head Slide will leave her briefly dazed.

Sonic Advance
The Head Slide, here named the Head Slide Attack, first appeared in Sonic Advance where it was used only by Amy Rose as one of her standard moves. To perform the Head Slide Attack, the player must perform Amy's Giant Step by pressing down and at the same time. During the Giant Step, the player then has to press to execute the Head Slide Attack.
Sonic Advance 2
The Head Slide appeared again in Sonic Advance 2 where it was used by Amy again, but could only be used when she was in Boost Mode.
To perform the Head Slide, the player must press while Amy is in Boost Mode. When using the Head Slide in this game, a yellowish-green energy field will form around Amy's head and her attack range increases. Foremost however, the Head Slide allows Amy to maintain the speed she is running at and remain in Boost Mode, unlike normal attacks which causes Amy to slow down and stop moving entirely.

The Head Slide was once again used Amy in Sonic Advance 3. In this game, Amy can only used by the Head Slide when she is teamed up with Cream. Here, Amy must be the character the player controls, and Cream serves as the character that follows the controlled character. With Cream's influence, Amy can perform the Head Slide. The performance of the move is identical to that in Sonic Advance and looks like how it was presented in Sonic Advance 2, except Amy is instead surrounded by a yellow energy field.
Mario & Sonic series
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
The Head Slide appeared again later in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, as one of Vector the Crocodile's special moves. In this game, the Head Slide allows Vector to gain a quick boost of speed during several events. When performing it, he is surrounded by a green energy field and musical notes.
Head Slide can be used much longer in the DS version, where for example in the Extreme Snowboarding event, it depends on a boost meter that can be filled by performing tricks. Vector can destroy obstacles such as Egg Pawns using this ability.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
The Head Slide reappeared in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, once again as one of Vector's special moves, especially used as a quick boost for racing events such as 100m Sprint.
Sonic Runners series
Sonic Runners
Vector uses a move very similar to the Head Slide in Sonic Runners. In the game, the move is simply described as a kind of "dash attack" usable by all Power Type characters while staying in mid-air. Unlike its appearances in the Mario & Sonic series, Vector will continue the attack until there are no obstacles left in front of him. If Vector hits something while using the Head Slide, the green energy field behind him seems to shatter like broken glass.
Sonic Runners Adventure
The Head Slide returns as Vector's dash attack in Sonic Runners Adventure, functioning identically to Sonic Runners.
Sonic Forces: Speed Battle
Vector uses the Head Slide as his Slide ability in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle to slip under or destroy obstacles on the track.
Trivia
Vector's Head Slide looks exactly the same as his swimming styles "Crocodile Paddle" in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and "Gator style" in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, referencing the natural swimming movement of a crocodile.
