The Heat Arms[1] (ヒートアームズ[2] Hītoāmuzu?) is an antagonist that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a large arm-based Badnik created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the second part of the Angel Island incident.

Appearance[]

The Heat Arms is a large, three-finger hand accompanied by two sets of tendrils that have dark gray rotating cannons on their ends.

History[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]

In Sonic & Knuckles, and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik used the Heat Arms for an attempt to destroy Sonic and Tails in Lava Reef Zone. However, the robot proved to be quite weak against the heroes, who destroyed it.

Some time later, a re-built Heat Arms would attack Knuckles in Lava Reef Zone. However, it was destroyed by the echidna.

Powers and abilities[]

While not having many unique characteristics, the Heat Arms' hand was shown to be quite strong, being capable of causing short earthquakes when hitting the ground with its hand. Its tendril cannons can also fire small energy projectiles.

Battle[]

The Heat Arms is the boss of Lava Reef Zone Act 1 in Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the eighth boss in Sonic & Knuckles. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it is the twenty-first boss in Sonic and Tails' stories and the twentieth in Knuckles' story. In Sonic & Knuckles, it is fought by Sonic or Knuckles, while in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it can also be fought by Tails either alone or as Sonic's partner. In Sonic Origins Plus, it can also be fought with Amy.

Boss guide[]

At the start of the battle, the Heat Arms will raise a pair of long tendrils with cannons. Both will fire three projectiles each at downward trajectories, which can be deflected if the player has a Water Shield, Lightning Shield or Flame Shield. The tendrils will then lower to make way for a hand which will follow the player for some time before stopping and try to crush them. It will then go down to make way for the tendrils, thus repeating the process.

The tendrils can be optionally destroyed hitting them four times each. The hand itself has to be hit six times to destroy it and complete the boss fight (this will also destroy the remaining tendrils). After destroying the Heat Arms, a Goal Plate will drop down into the Act.

Trivia[]

  • The Heat Arms' hand resembles the hands of the Giant Eggman Robo, although it is much bigger. Unlike the Giant Eggman Robo's fingers, it cannot be damaged by Spin Dashing directly underneath it, which harms the player instead.
  • In Sonic Mania, tentacles similar to the ones used by the Heat Arms make an appearance during the Mega Octus fight in Oil Ocean Zone Act 2. They work the exact same way they did before.
  • In Knuckles' story, this is the last sub-boss that is battled by Knuckles.
  • In the original version of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it is possible for Tails to instantly die from the hand attack if he is standing directly underneath the hand, even when having Rings/Shield or is invincible (ie. Hyper Tails).
