The Hint[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a type of advice box which provides the player with additional help during gameplay.
Description[]
The Hint is designed as a floating golden question mark surrounded by a ring of dots in different colors. In gameplay, they can be found in several places across the adventure levels, usually in the first levels of each game.
When touching a Hint, a text box will appear on the Nintendo 3DS's lower screen where a character briefly provides the player with information about the surroundings, gimmicks, objects, enemies, how to play, etc. While the Hint's contents are being relayed, the player can move around freely and/or close the Hint early.
Game appearances[]
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal[]
The Hint made its first appearance in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. In this game, the Hints' contents are provided by the game's main guide, Q-N-C.[2] Also, the Hint's text boxes are here illustrated as Q-N-C's speech balloons.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice[]
In Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the Hint's contents are explained to the player by Tails. In this game, yellow stars surrounding the word "Hint" will appear on the screen whenever a Hint is used. In addition, these Hints' text boxes cover the entire lower Nintendo 3DS screen.
Trivia[]
- The Hint's design is derived from the Hint Ring in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
