Hip and Hop

Hip and Hop

Hip and Hop are a pair of kangaroos who managed to escape from Dr. Robotnik.

History

They first appeared in the comic adaptation for Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball. They received their names in Sonic the Hedgehog #6 where after the construction of Dr. Robotnik's Veg-O-Fortress, they warned Sonic the Hedgehog of the presence of Ferrons ahead before escaping to safety.

Hip and Hop judges

Hip and Hop as judges in the trial of St. John

The two later appeared as judges in the trial against Sonic following his rampage as Mecha Sonic. (StH: #6, #40)

They also reappear as judges of the Republic of Acorn, most notably in the trial of Geoffrey St. John after the latter betrayed his comrades and the kingdom to the evil wizard Ixis Naugus, of whom Geoffrey was an apprentice. Despite Geoffrey's protests that he wasn't guilty, Hip and Hop judged him guilty nonetheless. In their own words, "We, the judges, are in agreement. The defendant was pretending to serve the active authority while working against it", "The ends do not justify the means. We find commander St John... Guilty of treason!". While the judgement remained, Naugus used the political power he now had as the new king to clear Geoffrey of all charges. (StH :#233)
