The Homing Attack is a recurring move used in the Sonic Boom video games. It allows the user to home onto and attack a nearby target.

Description

When performing the Homing Attack, the user targets an opponent or object from midair before launching straight into it, damaging it. The stance used when performing this move varies between users; users like Sonic the Hedgehog curl into a spinning ball before hitting the targets while others like Tails, Knuckles and Sticks simply ram into it without a special stance. In gameplay, the attack's force will make the player bounce off targets. In addition, it can be chained to both attack and skip across several enemies or targets to reach other areas.

Besides combat, the Homing Attack can be used to quickly target other things such as Bounce Pads, Air Targets, item capsules and breakable obstacles. The move is also sometimes necessary to cross bottomless pits or to just proceed forward more quickly.

Game appearances

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, the Homing Attack is one of Sonic's character-exclusive moves. The move can be performed up to three times in succession. Trying to use it for a fourth time makes Sonic land on the ground with a powerful stomp, creating a shockwave upon impact that damages all enemies within range.

Outside combat, the Homing Attack can be used to target Air Targets, which serve as "stepping stones" for Sonic to skip across when crossing pits. To perform the Homing Attack in gameplay, the player must press Snnwiidsxbuttondisco on the Wii U GamePad with Sonic when he is close to a target.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice

In Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the Homing Attack is usable to all playable characters, including the Bot Racers during Bot Racing. Like in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, to use the Homing Attack in gameplay, the user must first jump near an enemy, stage object, or item capsule to mark it with a red target reticule. Press then DSB to launch the Homing Attack.

If an enemy is hit by the Homing Attack while Ice Mode is active they will be frozen in ice before exploding.
