When performing Hover, Tails twirls his twin tails around like rotary blades while in mid-jump, thus creating a lift that lets him slowly descend from his fall through the air like a helicopter. In gameplay, this ability enables the player to glide through midair and across wide gaps. On its own, Hover cannot be used to gain altitude. However, by hovering within the air currents from Tails Vents, Tails can ride on the wind, allowing the player move in the direction of the air current, including upward.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric
In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, the Hover is one of Tails' character-exclusive moves used to reach areas others cannot. To use Hover in gameplay, the player must press and hold on the Wii U GamePad during a jump. The player can then use the control stick to control the direction of Tails' descend. Releasing makes Tails cease with hovering.
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, the Hover is again a character-exclusive move that Tails uses for exploration. While hovering, the player can launch the Homing Attack or use the Double Jump and still remain in flight. To use Hover in gameplay, the player must press and hold during a jump. While in flight, use to steer Tails' descend. Releasing will cease Hover.
Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice
Much like in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, the player can launch the Homing Attack, utilize Blaster, or use the Double Jump and still remain in flight while hovering. To use Hover in gameplay, the player must press and hold during a jump. While in flight, use to steer Tails' descend. Releasing will cease Hover.
