Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Adventure

Icecap (アイスキャップ Aisukyappu?), also formatted IceCap, is an Action Stage that appears in Sonic Adventure, its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut and the 2010 remaster of the game. It is the fourth Action Stage played as Sonic, the third Action Stage as Tails, and the second Action Stage as Big. It is a snowy section of Angel Island. As with most other Action Stages in its games, Icecap has different level designs for each character, which have three optional missions each.

Description[]

Overall, Icecap is an area in the Mystic Ruins, acceded by using the Ice Stone at the Ice Cave. The first section of this Action Stage takes place on the top side of the mountain. There is grey rocks covered in show with ice crystals blocking the way. There are also multiple platforms on the mountain. A clear blue sky covers the area and multiple caves with icicles appear.

The second section of Icecap is a large, frozen cavern filled with icicles. Now there is light grey rocky terrain with covered in snow. Ice crystals are present here, and wood planks also appear. There are also giant icicles lead to a wooden pathway. Big's version of this area most notably takes place at night with large icy pools.

The third section of Icecap has the characters sliding down the mountain via snowboarding. Light rocky snow covered terrain and caves now appear. At the beginning of this section, an avalanche will begin to chase the character before they enter a cave. Midway, a snow storm starts, and trick ramps, houses, and hot air balloons appear, implying that Icecap has residency in it. After that, the snow storm stops after the character exits a cave.

Story[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

After Angel Island has once again fallen into the ocean, Sonic and Tails come across the Ice Stone in Station Square. They then use it at the Mystic Ruins to access Icecap in search of a Chaos Emerald. After fighting Dr. Robotnik's Badniks on the outside of the mountain, they enter inside a cave to where they must get up to the top to escape. Once out of the cave however, an avalanche occurs, forcing Sonic and Tails to snowboard down the mountain to escape. Once on the other side of the mountain, Sonic and Tails find the green Chaos Emerald.

Miles "Tails" Prower[]

After Angel Island has once again fallen into the ocean, Tails and Sonic come across the Ice Stone in Station Square. They then use it at the Mystic Ruins to access Icecap in search of a Chaos Emerald. There, the two have a snowboarding race down the mountain whilst being chased by an avalanche. In the end, Tails wins.

Big the Cat[]

Following Angel Island's crash landing near the Mystic Ruins, Big finds the Ice Stone and travels into the Icecap's mountain in search of his friend, Froggy. There, he fishes for Froggy in one of the local pools and eventually catches him. By the time Big leaves Icecap however, Froggy has escaped again.

Gameplay[]

In Sonic's version of Icecap, there are icicles that Sonic can grab onto a scurry around. If the player holds on for too long, however, Sonic will fall off it.

While snowboarding, the character can jump of ramps to preform tricks off of it. Snowboarding also disables jumping, forcing the character to dodge jumpable obstacles.

Overview[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Sonic's version of the Action Stage starts in a cave. After he exits, he can ether use Jump Panels or use a Rocket in a cave to reach the second area. The cave introduces Sonic to icicles, where Sonic holds on too long, he will slip off it and fall to to its slippery surface.

In the second area, Sonic must reach a Jump Panel in order to make giant obstacles fall and lead the way. Sonic is forced to climb up the cavern using Icicles and loops. When Sonic reaches the the Jump Panel, he will jump of a giant icicle, causing it to fall down and reveal a new path.

In the final section, Sonic now has to deal with an avalanche and disabled jumping. Throughout, Sonic is forced to dodge obstacles and dangerous hazards that can slow him down or end his game. After this, Sonic will have found the green Chaos Emerald.

Big the Cat[]

Big's version of the Action Stage allows him to pick up boulders and throw them at the icy pool, breaking part of it. Big is not allowed to leave the cavern of Icecap though. The goal here is to fish out Froggy and catch him while he is trying to escape. Big can throw his rod at the broken part of the water to catch Froggy. Trivia[]

  • In Sonic's version of Icecap, Sonic can be seen strutting along the peculiar bridge; even an enemy is there. In the final game, the bridge was replaced by a Rocket to get to the second area, and the same one crushed during the snowboard action, as seen below.
  • The presence of houses, windmills and hot air balloons in Icecap seems to suggest that Knuckles may not be the only inhabitant of Angel Island, with the exception of the Animals.
