"Infinite" is Infinite's theme song in Sonic Forces, serving as a "counter-theme" to the main theme "Fist Bump". It was composed and arranged by Tomoya Ohtani, with lyrics and performance by Tyler Smyth and Andy Bane of the metalcore band Dangerkids.[2]

A mix of dubstep, trap and metal, the song is written from Infinite's perspective, and is fittingly full to the brim with egotistical boasting and dreams of power. It also leaves cryptic hints as to the nature of his power.

Background

The decision by Tomoya Ohtani to create a "counter theme song" was out of a desire to make a more "powerful" soundtrack, particularly inspired by the success of songs like "Dreams of an Absolution" compared to main themes like "His World", and believed "Infinite" to be a strong counterpart to "Fist Bump".[3]

Remixed versions also serve as the boss themes for all three of the Infinite boss battles. The first two were instrumental versions of the melody for the song, while the last battle featured an ominous orchestral mix. Another remix is also featured in Episode Shadow during Infinite's monologue titled "Infinite's Beginning".

Lyrics

(Yeah)
(Yo)
I'm the tallest of mountains
I am the roughest of waves
I'm the toughest of terrors
I am the darkest of days
I'm the last one that's standing,
Don't try to stand in my way,
Cause I've been up against better,
Just take a look at my face
Cause if you're messing with me,
I am a dangerous weapon
I am the sharpest of blades;
I'll cut you down in a second
Cause I was born in this pain,
It only hurts if you let it,
So if you think you can take me
Then you should go and forget it
And after all this time, you're back for more
(I won't stop until they know my name)
So I'll take what's mine and start this war
(I'm coming at you like a tidal wave)
When everything you know has come and gone,
(You are at your lowest, I am rising higher)
Only scars remain of who I was
(What I find in the ashes, you lose in the fire!)
When there's no one left to carry on,
(This is an illusion, open up your eyes and...)
This pain (persists),
I can't (resist),
But that's what it takes to be Infinite
So look around you
And tell me what you really see
I never end
And that's the difference in you and me
Cause when your time is up
And everything is falling down,
It's only me and you - who is gonna save you now?
So look around you
And tell me what you really see
You live a lie
And that's the difference in you and me
I have the power,
Let me show you what it's all about
It's only me and you - who is gonna save you now?
(Who is gonna save you now?)[3]

Connections to Infinite

  • I'm the tallest of mountains/I am the roughest of waves/I'm the toughest of terrors/I am the darkest of days - Infinite is the most powerful foe Sonic has faced to date, OR a sign of Infinite's arrogance in extreme boasting, which serves as a front for his insecurities.
  • I'm the last one that's standing - Infinite being the sole survivor of the Jackal Squad.
  • Cause I've been up against better, just take a look at my face - Infinite's mask is a sign of the power he's achieved, a "new face". May also reference his prior status as the ultimate mercenary and his having a scar across his right eye.
  • Cause I was born in this pain, it only hurts if you let it - Infinite was born weak, but refuses to allow himself to stoop down to that level ever again.
  • So if you think you can take me/Then you should go and forget it - The Resistance is foolish to think they can stop him, and they should just back down.
  • And after all this time, you're back for more - Infinite reuniting with either Shadow, Sonic, or the Avatar.
  • Only scars remain of who I was - Virtually nothing remains of the person Infinite once was.
  • (This is an illusion, open up your eyes and...)/So look around you and tell me what you really see - Infinite's power to bend reality.
  • This pain (persists) - Infinite continues to be proven weak by Sonic and the Avatar, despite his newfound power.
  • I can't (resist) - Infinite is unable to resist the allure of the Phantom Ruby.
  • But that's what it takes to be Infinite - Infinite must prove himself worthy of his new identity through overcoming his pain.
  • I never end - Infinite is undefeated OR a reference to his very name.
  • You live a lie/And that's the difference in you and me - Sonic's belief in the power of friendship is nothing but an illusion that Infinite sees through.
  • It's only me and you - who is gonna save you now? - It's just Infinite and either Sonic or the Avatar, and no one will save them from him.
