Instead of three laps, race straight to the finish line

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

Iron Ruin is a course that appears in Sonic Drift 2. It is a racing track located in a rusty industrial wasteland. It is the sixth and final course in the Purple Chaos GP.

Description[]

Iron Ruin's main setting is a desolate and decrepit industrial wasteland. The entire region is covered in fields of metal, which have long since degraded and been covered in rust, that extinguishes any signs of life. In some of the places in these fields there are also large black pits dotting the surface. The sky itself is a constant dark orange and in the background, the horizon is covered in hills of broken and decayed futuristic industrial buildings, such as factories and dark, shadowed assembly plants.

The racing track through Iron Ruin is mainly colored in alternating black horizontal stripes in different shades with similarly colored white and gray edges. Also, on the outside of the track, there are occasionally metal pillars.

This wasteland base bears resemblance to Scrap Brain Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog. If proved to be so, then this is the fate of the zone after Robotnik's defeat in the game.

Gameplay[]

In Iron Ruin, the player's objective is to get the top position in the race. Racing outside the border of the asphalt racetrack will cause the player to lose speed immediately. Additionally, there are sections of the track where there are empty spaces on either side of the road, which the player can fall into if moving outside the road. If that happens, the player falls off the road and has to wait for a giant metal crane to drop him/her back onto the racetrack, which can cost the player a lot of time.

Another hazard to the player in Iron Ruin is the Mecha Vulture. When the player reaches the third pass of Iron Ruin, the Mecha Vulture will appear and start flying back and forth, trying to land on one of the racers' hoods and make them slow down.

Overview[]

In Dark Valley, the player races on a linear racing track encompassing the entire map. Additionally, the racing track is littered with different power-ups and objects that the player can utilize. Here, the player's objective is to reach the end of the racetrack. The fastest racer to complete this race is rewarded with a Chaos Emerald.
