For other uses of Jamal, see Jamal (disambiguation).

A young man who hopes to one day be an even greater fisherman than his father. His passion often gets the best of him: one day he even set sail in a tempest, exclaiming, "Where there's a will, there's a way!" Well, apparently, that way was straight down, because the boat sank in the storm. Thankfully, its intrepid passenger survived. Lately, Jamal has spent more time calming his father's turbulent mood than the sea's turbulent waters.

— Directory, Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3)

Jamal (ジャマル Jamaru?) is a character that appears in Sonic Unleashed. He is a human resident of Adabat, the son of Teanchai and the brother of Rudi, Nagi and Kaeo. An aspiring fisherman, he takes care of calming down his father whenever he has been rilled up about a boy talking to Rudi.

History[]

Xbox 360/PlayStation 3[]

While living it Adabat, Jamal has always been fishing and aspired to become a better fisherman than his father, Teanchai. Whenever he got the chance, Jamal went into Jungle Joyride to fish near the waterfalls, but because the waterfalls tended to start and stop their flow on their own, it made it a bit tricky for Jamal to fish there, but he eventually got used to them after a long time. Also, whenever Teanchai threw a fit about a young man talking to Rudi, Jamal was the one who had to calm him down. One day, Jamal sailed out during a tempest to catch fish in an attempt to surpass his father as a fisherman, sure that he could figure out a way through the storm and still make some catches. Eventually however, Jamal's boat sunk in the storm, but Jamal survived and made it back home.

During Sonic Unleashed, Jamal met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip when they first arrived in Adabat. There, Jamal greeted them and told them that they did not get many visitors here, before asked if they would hang around for a while.

From there, whenever Sonic came to Adabat and talked to Rudi, which would cause Teanchai to get furious, Jamal would notice his father's temper and hurry to him and try to calm him down, though it was often hard task for Jamal. Before doing so, though, Jamal would meet Sonic, where he warned him to stay away from his father while he calmed him down while explaining why Teanchai got so mad. As Sonic continued to talk to Rudi, however, Jamal's patience was running thin as he kept telling Sonic to stop making his father angry.

After Sonic the Werehog and Chip got through Jungle Joyride for the first time, Jamal saw them exit the jungle and asked them if they were trying catch some fish before telling them about the waterfalls he fished at.

Later on, during daytime, Jamal asked Sonic if he knew that their shattered planet was coming back together and noted how weird it was. Later, during the night, Jamal met Sonic and Chip again where he told them that the surrounding sea was beautiful, both during the daytime and nighttime.

After Sonic and Chip got through Jungle Joyride a second time, Jamal saw them return from the forest. Upon meeting him, Jamal told Sonic how impressed he was that he was unharmed, and that he thought he was brave, since most people in Adabat was afraid of the forest. Later on, Jamal met Sonic again and told him how he liked to swim in the ocean before asking Sonic if he liked it too, well, but was surprised to hear that he could not swim.

After Sonic and Chip had restored Adabat's continent, Jamal met Sonic again and asked where he was going. As Sonic said it was to "the last battle", Jamal was not sure what he meant, but guessed that he had to do it.

Later on, during Sonic and Chip's battle with Dark Gaia, Jamal and the rest of his village felt the tremors from Chip calling the local Gaia Temple to him.

Wii/PlayStation 2[]

In the beginning of Sonic Unleashed, Jamal's and the rest of his family's ancestral home was destroyed in the earthquakes created from Dark Gaia's awakening. As such, Jamal and his family was forced to move to the stilt house village of Adabat.

When Sonic the Werehog and Chip first arrived in Adabat, Jamal them and was excited to see them as they rarely got any visitors there. He then offered Sonic and Chip to take a load off and make themselves at home, though he admitted that there was not much to see, and quickly left as he told them that he had work to do. Later on, Jamal met Sonic and Chip again, where he told them of the fresh fish they caught in Adabat and offered them to try some before they left.

When Sonic and Chip were looking for the local Gaia Gate in Adabat, Jamal noticed that Sonic had changed back from his Werehog form to his normal form, and asked if he had lost weight. As they asked him about the Gaia Gate, Jamal told that he did not know anything, but noted that his father might know something, and advised them to talk to him.

Jamal was later talking a scroll on the beach, where he found Soundtrack 44. When he later met Sonic and Chip again, Jamal gave them Soundtrack 44 as he wanted them to have it.

Later on, during Sonic and Chip's battle with Dark Gaia, Jamal and the rest of his village felt the tremors from Chip calling the local Gaia Temple to him.

Personality[]

Jamal is a determined young man who strives hard to become a better fisherman than his father, though his passion can sometimes get him into trouble: one day he set sail in a tempest, believing he could force his way through it, only for it to end in disaster. Despite this, Jamal is very friendly towards others. While he always takes the job of calming his father down when he throws a fit, he is not very fond of it.
