The Jousun[1] (ジョースン[2] Jōsun?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, swordfish-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Jousun

The Jousuns are based on swordfish. They have rocket thrusters on their sides, and a retractable gray spike. Their main coloring is green.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Advance 3[]

In Sonic Advance 3, the Jousuns only appear in Ocean Base. In gameplay, they lurk just outside the Zone's climbable waterfalls or in submerged sections, hovering up and down and waiting for their victim. Once the playable character gets in their line of sights, they will surround themselves in a green energy field and charge into the playable character at high speed, inflicting damage. Because of their placements and fast attack patterns, they can be tricky to avoid. Also, upon destroying a Jousun, it will drop a Ring.

Other game appearances[]

Sonic Jump series[]

Sonic Jump[]

In Sonic Jump, the Jousuns appear as enemies. In this game, they only appear in Blue Sky Zone. In gameplay, the Jousuns only fly left and right. In order to destroy a Jousun, the player must jump into it from below; touching a Jousun while falling will cause Sonic to take damage.

Sonic Jump 2[]

In Sonic Jump 2, which serves as a remaster of its prequel, the Jousuns appear as enemies in the same location and behave in the same way as in their previous appearance.

Powers and abilities[]

In addition to being capable of flight, Jousuns are equipped with a spear on their nose that can skewer foes and can retract whenever needed.

Trivia[]

  • The Jousun's name is derived from jou, meaning "counter," and sun, meaning "measurement." This is a reference to how they retaliate only when the player is in their line of sight.
