Jungle Zone (ジャングル Janguru?, lit. "Jungle") is the third Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog for the Master System and Game Gear. As with all other Zones in the game, Jungle Zone consists of two platforming Acts followed by a shorter third Act which contains the Zone's boss (and not a single Ring).
Description
Jungle Zone is an area of South Island; a huge, thick rainforest, with treacherous waterways, snaking vines and giant trees. Indeed, Act 2 is a vertical level where Sonic has to climb a massive waterfall, jumping on rocky outcroppings and floating wooden boughs.
Boss
This time, Robotnik attempts to take Sonic down by dropping rolling bombs on a sweeping vine trellis. Keep out of the explosives' way, and attack Robotnik when he lowers his pod down to deploy a new ball.
In other media
Sonic the Comic
The Jungle Zone appears in the "Face from the Past" storyline of Sonic the Comic, in issues #51 and #52. It was in this Zone that Metamorphia attempted to infiltrate the Freedom Fighters by posing as Sonic's long-lost brother Tonic. The ruse was quickly discovered and Metamorphia defeated.
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
The jungle appeared in the episode "Zoobotnik" where Sonic pass by it and slip on a banana and find a caveman, Sonic tells him where Tails is and he point at a ship that belong to Katella.

Trivia
- In the Game Gear versions of Jungle Zone, fruit can be seen in the background scenery throughout the stage such as oranges, pears and apples. The fruit is absent in the Master System version of Jungle Zone.
