Appearances in other media
Kiki ( is an enemy in the キキ ) ? . It is a mass-produced, monkey-based robot created by Sonic the Hedgehog series Dr. Eggman that can generate bombs.
The Kikis bear a heavy resemblance to the
Coconuts Badniks. Compared to Coconuts, Kikis have a less round head, more pronounced ears and an orange and gray color scheme.
, the Kikis were redesigned with longer limbs, larger eyes and a more round head (making them strongly resemble Sonic Advance 2 Mons). They later returned to their original design, but with larger pupils and cyan sclera.
The Kikis made their first appearance in
, and later its remake Sonic Adventure . They are common enemies in the game, as they can be found in the following Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut Action Stages for each character:
A Kiki in
. Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut
In gameplay, Kikis are found in high places or on the ground. They idle about either watching the scenery if in high places, or scratching their heads every now and then if on the ground. There are also some Kikis who linger on the ground and can run slightly away from a player if spotted, while others will try and hurt the player by coming close.
Kikis in the trees and some on the ground always carry bombs that they will throw in the player's direction. They will snicker while jumping and doing somersaults excitedly if their attack is succesful. Some bombs might explode right away or after awhile. In the latter case, the player can
pick them up and throw them at Badniks to destroy them. Destroying a Kiki will in turn release the Animal inside it. However, if the bomb has spikes around it, it cannot be picked as it can cause damage to the player.
There are also two Kikis in cages out in the
Adventure Fields, in both Sonic and Knuckles' stories. The first can only be destroyed using the Light Speed Attack, while the second can only be destroyed using the Monkey Detonation Switch. Destroying these Kikis will unlock sealed paths.
Sonic Adventure 2
and Sonic Adventure 2 , the Kikis appear in the following Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Action Stages for each character:
In gameplay, Kikis display two behaviors. Normal ones jump on one foot and will toss both large and small bombs at the player when they get too close. Others simply spin in one place and jump without throwing bombs. These badniks can be found on top of pillars or at corners.
. Sonic Adventure 2
, there will be a delay before the Kikis' bombs explode after they are tossed, during which they will flash intermittently more and more rapidly before detonating. In this time, the player can Sonic Adventure pick them up and throw them back at the Kikis. Alternatively, they can be used to break Cages. When destroying a Kiki, the player is awarded one hundred points and an Animal will be set free from the robot.
In the Hard Mode of
Hidden Base, several Kikis can create massive-sized bombs that cause huge explosions when touching the ground. However, the Kikis risk destroying themselves with these bombs, as they can be too heavy for them to lift when conjuring them up.
Sonic Advance series
, the Kikis only appear in Sonic Advance Neo Green Hill Zone. In this game, they act much like Coconuts Badniks by scuttling up and down palm trees and tossing explosive coconuts at passersby.
Sonic Advance 2
, the Kikis were given a slight redesign. In this game, they only appear in Sonic Advance 2 Leaf Forest. Like in the previous title, they scuttle up and down palm trees and toss explosive coconuts at passersby.
Sonic Pinball Party
, a Kiki will hide in the Big Target Hole in the Sonic Pinball Party Neo Green Hill Zone variant of the Sonic pinball board. Flinging the ball into the Big Target Hole for the first time makes the Kiki pop out of the palm trees.
Mario & Sonic series
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
, Kiki appears in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games DS Adventure Tour, in which it ruins a patch of flowers until Daisy beats it in a snowball fight. After this, Kiki opens a gate and retreats to get repaired.
Kikis also appear in certain mini games, being the
Sonic equivalent to Goombas from the Mario series.

Classic Sonic in the 3DS version of . Sonic Generations
Nintendo 3DS version of , Kikis are encountered again in Sonic Generations Emerald Coast. In gameplay, they can be found either standing in one place or climbing on palmtrees. When Sonic approaches them, the Kikis will start throwing bombs at him. Otherwise, the player can easily defeat them with the Homing Attack.
When their bombs are thrown on the ground, they explode after a short time, though the explosion's radius is small. The Kikis are not immune to their bombs' explosion and they will be destroyed if they are nearby them.
Powers and abilities
Coconuts Badnik, Kikis are able to generate and throw bombs, although Kikis throw explosives whereas Coconuts throws coconuts. Additionally, the Kikis are capable of controlling the size and power of their bombs.
A Cart Kiki
Cart Kikis are variants of the Kikis that appears in and Sonic Adventure . These models consist of Kikis riding Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut Bumper Cars.
Cop Speeders are another variants that first appear in and later in Sonic Adventure . Similar to Cart Kikis, Cop Speeders consist of Kikis driving hovering police cars.
Dr. Robotnik action figure with Kiki as an accessory.
As part of the
Toy Line made by the company Sonic Adventure Toy Island, Kiki was released as an accessory with the Dr. Robotnik action figure. Kiki has five points of articulation, a removable tail and a bomb which he cannot actually hold without the application of some kind of adhesive.
Kiki is one of three robots from
to be translated into an action figure (the other two being Sonic Adventure E-102 Gamma by ReSaurus and Spinner by Jazwares). The Dr. Robotnik figure was re-released as a toy without Kiki.

The Bombs detonate as soon as they hit you or after a short amount of time. So, you can pick them up. As soon as you do, the timer stops and you can transport them safely. This will be important to Knuckles and Rouge."
