The Kinetic Gyratoscope is an object that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It was a treadmill-like machine that Sonic the Hedgehog was using during his transformation from a brown-and-spiky hedgehog into the blue-and-streamlined hedgehog that he is better known as.

Overview[]

The device was built by Doctor Ovi Kintobor, which is Ivo Robotnik's name spelled backwards, and resembles a giant treadmill. Sonic used the machine to learn how to run faster (although even before this he was the fastest hedgehog on Mobius), in exchange for using this speed to help Kintobor find the missing seventh Chaos Emerald for his Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor.

When Kintobor invented the friction-resistant red-and-white Power Sneakers, Sonic used them for the first time on the Gyratoscope. He was able to run faster than ever before, and despite Kintobor's panicked objections that the Gyratoscope couldn't cope, he managed to run faster than the speed of sound. The resulting sonic boom shattered the Gyratoscope, but also fused his spines and transformed him into his famous blue form.[1]
