The Knuckles Clan is a group that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series and its spin-offs. It was a caste of warrior Echidnas from Albion, which departed from their homeland with other Echidna groups to colonize parts of Mobius. When the made a settlement in Soumerca, the Knuckles Clan remained behind to fight for their claimed land in a three-way war, until the entire clan was wiped when they incurred the wrath of Chaos.

History

Foundation and War

During the early centuries of Mobius, the Knuckles Clan were composed of the Echidnas from a warrior caste in Albion. When the Echidnas of Albion attempted a second time to create a colony, the warrior caste of Echidnas departed together with groups of scientists and intellectuals to make this new colony and spread Echidna culture. The voyagers arrived in Soumerca where they began building their colony, but soon found themselves at odds with the hostile native Felidae warriors from Pais Misterioso who had already claimed the land.

While most of the colonists chose to leave and settle elsewhere, the warrior caste that became the Knuckles Clan, and the advanced sciences caste that became the Nocturnus Clan, decided to remain at the new land and fight for it. The Knuckles Clan initially fought back against the Feildae with support from the Nocturnus Clan, but shortly after dedicating themselves to the fight, ideological differences cause a rift to opened between the Knuckles Clan's leader, Chief Pachacamac and the Nocturnus Clan's leader, Imperator Ix, eventually leading to Pachacamac chosing to wage war against the Nocturnus Clan as well as with the Felidae. A three-way war then erupted between the three groups, where Chief Pachacamac leading the Knuckles Clan down a reactionary path with focus on warfare, while the Nocturnus Clan made great strides in their technological prowess and Felidae kept pressing on their attack.

Destruction

Over the course of the conflict, the Knuckles Clan became overwhelmed by the Nocturnus Clan and the Felidae, so Pachacamac sought to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds that substained the local Chao Garden to overcome their enemies. Tikal, Pachacamac's daughter, tried appal to her father when he and his soldiers came to take the Chaos Emeralds by force, asking them to leave the Chao alone and forget the war. Pachacamac, however, ignored Tikal's warnings and lead a brutal invasion of the Chao Garden. However, this act made the Knuckles Clan incur the wrath of Chaos, who was corrupted by anger after seeing the Knuckles Clan wound the Chao and trying to seize the Chaos Emeralds for their own nefarious plans. In its anger, Chaos wiped out the Knuckles Clan in a matter of hours. Tikal, who were the last surviving member of the Knuckles Clan, saw that Chaos was overcome and corrupted by fury, so she and the seven Server Chao used the Chaos Emeralds' power to seal Chaos and Tikal inside the Black Emerald.

Legacy

After their destruction, the Knuckles Clan has almost been but mostly forgotten. The remains of the Knuckles Clan's settlement after Chaos destroyed it became a part of the Mystic Ruins that tell about their grim conquest. Also, because the Felidae would remember the crimes Pachacamac committed against their people, they deemed it taboo entering the ruins of the Knuckles Clan and would avoid this area except in the event of emergency.

The only living testament to the Knuckles Clan's existence is the Guardian Knuckles the Echidna, who were named after the warrior clan by his father Locke, a former Guardian and a descendant of the scientists who parted ways with the Knuckles Clan, who decided to name his son after the Knuckles Clan to reclaim a lost legacy. Also, when Locke fought Cat Queen's champion Razorklaw, he announced that he would fight on behalf of the Knuckles Clan.
