The Lava Reef Zone[1] is a location that appears in Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is a Zone on the Floating Island within a region with volcanic activity.

The Lava Reef Zone is essentially one giant volcano, with large build-ups of magma filling much of its floor. Even the platforms that can be walked on contain rocky structures that are filled with magma.[1] The exterior of the Zone is a baren ground littered with geysers that occasionally spew flames.[2]

The Zone is connected to a series of underground tunnels, one of which leads to the secret exit from the Lost Pyramid of Sandopolis. The entrance to the Hidden Palace can also be found here.[1] Knuckles also stated it was somewhere near the Mushroom Hill Zone.[2]

Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog once visited the Lava Reef Zone, having escaped from the Sandopolis Zone. To Knuckles' dismay, the Death Egg II was resting on the volcano's funnel. The heroes were then confronted by dozens of EggRobos, so Knuckles used the local rocky sculptures to pour lava all over them. They then left to go to the Emerald Chamber.[1] Knuckles later returned to the Lava Reef Zone to chase an EggRobo he believed had kidnapped Jake, a member of the Emerald Hill Folk. A punch from the echidna sent the Badnik into one of the Zone's fire geysers, destroying it and seemingly killing Jake. Fortunately, the boy was never inside the Badnik at all.[2]
