Lin (リン Rin?) is a human resident of Chun-Nan who appears in Sonic Unleashed. She is the mother of Jinlin and the grandmother of Hualin. Lin is a expert meat bun maker, with especially her family's recipe for meat buns being famous throughout Chun-Nan. Lin has since retired from her family's meat bun business, thought she still remains an active participant, and now focuses on teaching the next generation of meat bun makers in her family. She is a very good judge of character from having interacted with customers for years.

A meat bun pro who has been serving them up for 90 years now. Technically, Lin is retired, having passed the extent of her bun-craft on to her only daughter. Decades of customer interaction have made her an excellent judge of character; she only needs one glance.

In her youth, because she was born into a family of meat bun makers, Lin was taught by her family how to make top-quality meat buns and to eventually take over the family's meat bun shop as part of the family tradition. Over the years, Lin became a professional meat bun maker and came to have a great affection for meat buns and took great pride in her meat buns and her profession, and would live off them on a daily basis. Eventually, Lin was taught the family recipe for meat buns, and at some point she took over the family's meat bun shop.
Over the next decades, Lin ran her family's meat bun shop and upheld her family's reputation for making delicious meat buns. While working in her shop, Lin's interaction with customers made her an excellent judge of character to the point where she only needed one glance to judge a person.
At some point in her life, Lin eventually gave birth to her only daughter whom she named Jinlin. Staying true to her family's ways, Lin decided that Jinlin was to be the next meat bun cook in her family and that she would pass the family's meat bun shop on to her. As such, Lin began teaching Jinlin all she knew about crafting meat buns and eventually taught her the family recipe for meat buns. During her training of Jinlin, Lin proved to be a strict teacher towards her daughter, but her daughter proved as well to be dedicated to the art of meat bun making, and Lin managed to mold Jinlin into a capable meat bun cook.
Sometime after Jinlin married Wang, Lin was gifted with a granddaughter they named Hualin. Lin and Jinlin agreed that Hualin was the next in line for the meat bun shop, and Lin saw fit to teach Hualin about making meat buns as well, alongside Jinlin. Teaching Hualin, however, proved much of a challenge for Lin, as her granddaughter had no interest in learning how to make meat buns, and Lin would often butt heads with Hualin, telling her to get working. Despite Hualin's refusal in participating in the family business, however, Lin persevered and would often have Hualin work with Jinlin in the kitchen to help her mother cook meat buns, and as well nag Jinlin to pass on the family recipe for meat buns to Hualin. A little while before the events of Sonic Unleashed, after cooking meat buns for 90 years, Lin decided to retire from her place in the meat bun shop and passed on the position as cook to Jinlin, though Lin continued to participate in Hualin's training and the shop's daily affairs.
During the events of Sonic Unleashed, following the Earth's shattering, Dark Gaia's minions began to appear outside Lin's village, and to top it, the village's treasure had gone missing, leading to the village elder Zonshen's disappearance when he when looking for it. Due to such events, Lin deemed the village's Entrance Stage too dangerous to pass by and had it closed up, with Wang guarding it, so that no one got outside the village without Lin's permission, but it also prevented them from going out to look for Zonshen.
Sometime after that, Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip arrived in Chun-Nan. At first, Lin warmly welcomed the traveling duo, but was unable to give them a proper welcome, and Lin explained to them about the village treasure, about the village being in a uproar due to Zonshen's disappearance and their situation at hand. Lin was however surprised to hear Sonic offering to go find Zonshen, and Lin proclaimed with great joy that fortune had smiled upon them, while getting all misty eyed. With this, Lin gave Sonic and Chip permission to enter the Entrance Stage to find Zonshen. When Sonic and Chip later returned with Zonshen, Lin gave them her gratitude like the rest of the village. With the danger past, Lin asked Sonic and Chip if they wanted to help her make meat buns, but was disappointed to hear that they had to go back and report to Professor Pickle. Nevertheless, Lin told Sonic and Chip they could come back anytime.
Not long after, Sonic and Chip left, however, Lin and the rest of her village went from out of the frying pan and into the fire when Eggman's Robots began roaming outside the village. Fortunately however, Sonic and Chip returned and managed to drive the robotic invaders off, and as the duo returned, Lin told them cheerfully, that she liked them for being such a pair of go-getters.
A while later Sonic and Chip visited Chun-Nan again, and Lin thanked them, as they arrived, for all that they had done for the village and told them that they would always be welcome here, before asking them if they were not going out to see Professor Pickle, and telling them to be careful. Later, during one of the nights, Lin met Sonic and Chip and told them upon meeting them that the village was sleeping due to being so tired from all these events. Sonic and Chip then asked Lin why she was not bed, and she explained that because she was older she got to stay up late and claimed that her meat bun diet kept her healthy as an ox. Lin also told Sonic and Chip about her meat bun that was hers and the village's pride and joy, though, due to Hualin not wanting to meat buns like the rest of her family, she had some doubts about the present day's youth upholding the family's meat bun reputation.
When Sonic and Chip later returned to Chun-Nan, Lin revealed a little more to them about her family's meat bun business, telling them about how their recipe for meat buns had been in the family for generations, and admitted she would teach her family secrets to Sonic and Chip if the were her boys. She would also tell them about she is supposed to pass the meat bun shop on to Hualin, who is not interested in the family business at all.
Not long after this, Lin got into an extremely heated argument with Hualin; as Lin told her granddaughter firmly to stop goofing off and help her mother make meat buns, Hualin had reached the end of her limit, and yelled at Lin, telling her that she had had enough with meat buns and her village, and that she was running away. Hualin eventually proved to stand by her statement and ran away from Chun-Nan, leaving Lin furious. Calling Hualin an ungrateful, selfish little child, Lin claimed furiously that Hualin could do what she wanted, as she did not care about it.
Despite her statements, however, Lin proved to have some concern for Hualin's well-being due to the chaotic state the world was in at the moment, though she kept her emotions closely in check. When Sonic and Chip returned to Chun-Nan after having been in Empire City, Lin asked the duo how this place was and if people there could be trusted, as she feared Hualin could have went there. She only got more concerned when she learned that Sonic and Chip had restored another continent, and she wondered if Lin was in Empire City, fearing she could get hurt due to the tremors. Nevertheless, Lin remained confident, though with some doubts, that Hualin would soon come home on her own.
Eventually, Hualin did come home on her own, and Lin was ready to give her a piece of her mind. However, the joyful return of Hualin, along with the fact that her travels had satisfied her desires to see the world and had made her decide to join the family tradition and become a meat bun cook, made Lin too happy to be angry at her and she welcomed her back.
With Hualin back home, Lin resumed her training of Hualin, but she was still dissatisfied with her granddaughter as she proved herself to be "such a klutz". When Sonic and Chip met up with Lin again after that, she explained the progress she had with Hualin, and announced, though satisfied, that she was going to have her work cut out for her, showing her granddaughter the ropes.
Lin later watched on in horror with the rest of her village, as Dark Gaia began to cast the world into darkness, but later rejoiced, while talking to Zonshen, when the world returned to normal following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus.

When Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip arrived in Chun-Nan for the first time, Lin was tending to some medicine when she saw the duo. She asked them if they had come to visit the village, but then responsed that their timing was terrible, as the village was a whirlwind of activity, since the disappearance of the village elder Zonshen. As Sonic and Chip offered to help, Lin said that they seem to have a talent for finding trouble, but then replied that that was how she liked like her men. As she thought her village elder may be in trouble, Lin asked them if they could help out and find Zonshen and told them to ask Shuifon for details. When Sonic and CHip returned with Zonshen, having saved him from the Dark Gaia Phoenix, Lin toChip that the village was in their debt and congratulated them for a job well done.
Lin later watched on in horror with the rest of her village, as Dark Gaia began to cast the world into darkness, but later rejoiced, while talking to Zonshen, when the world returned to normal following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus.
