Worm bagged

— Notification, Sonic Spinball

The Magma Worm is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series It is a mass-produced Badnik model created by Dr. Robotnik.

Appearance[]

The Magma Worms have long segmented grey bodies with a head that is indistinguishable from their body. They have two big eyeballs with black pupils and white sclera, and have a beak-like mouth with sharp teeth. At the joint of their jaw they have an orange dot.

Overview[]

In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, the Magma Worms are only featured in Toxic Caves, while the 8-bit version of the same game features them in Toxic Pools. Once Sonic enters the section where they have been hiding, Magma Worms generally push their heads out of the holes on the walls. They respond just as easily when the player returns to their location.

Several Magma Worms appear in pairs at "worm loops", where the player usually has to reach three times in order the activate the hatch on one side of the worm loop. Magma Worms easily respond when the player returns to the place.

A Magma Worm is destroyed after being hit three times, which will release the Animal inside of it. Like many other enemies in the game, the player cannot get hurt by Magma Worms due to Sonic being in constant ball mode; instead, the player bounces backward when hitting the Magma Worms. When using the Magma Worms to bounce left and right at the worm loop three times, the player is rewarded with 100,000 points.

Powers and abilities[]

The Magma Worms are efficient burrowers, capable of digging through solid rock. They also possess a mouth with sharp teeth, suggesting they have quite an efficient bite.
