Masafumi Ogata (尾形 雅史 Ogata Masashi?) is a former composer for Sega who worked on several early Sonic the Hedgehog games. He is notable for composing the opening theme, "Sonic - You Can Do Anything", for Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

History[]

Ogata's first work in the Sonic series was for the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where he was credited as "Gatao". In that game, the background music for the stage Green Hills Zone contained an early version of the song that would become "Sonic - You Can Do Anything". He then composed the soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog CD alongside Naofumi Hataya.

He left Sega in 1995 and found work with Sound AMS until 2001. He became a freelance composer, but then quit the music industry in 2006, following work on Summon Night 4.
