Masher (ガブッチョ Gabucco?) is a fish-type badnik created by Dr. Robotnik which first appears in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It is a mechanical fish, resembling the Chopper from original Sonic the Hedgehog. Mashers will jump up and down around bridges in each zone.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Mashers make their first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where they are found jumping at the waterfalls of Emerald Hill Zone. Much like Chopper, Mashers can only hit the player by simply running towards them on the bridge. Mashers can be easily defeated by doing a Spin Jump, Spin Attack or Spin Dash.
An unnamed Badnik, which is found jumping at the waterfalls of Green Hill Zone in Sonic Blast, looks and acts almost identical to Mashers. Unlike Mashers from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, however, these Badniks don't have animal friends inside of them.
Sonic Pocket Adventure
Mashers make another appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure, as being featured at Neo South Island Zone. With red and white coloring, Mashers have almost the same pattern from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, even having animal friends inside of them again.
Mashers are successors of Choppers and heavily based on them. It has red metallic body while its lower body is colored orange. It has stretching pelvic fins each side, while above the body is set dorsal fin and white caudal fin. Like Choppers, it has serrated teeth on its mouth, white eyes with black pupils and two metallic buttons close to the mouth.
Like Choppers, their only attack is jumping from waterfalls in front of its target on the bridge while it keeps waving its mouth all the time. The only way to get hit by them is to run forward into these Badniks. Usually smaller waterfalls have one Masher and bigger ones have two Mashers jumping on it.

In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, Mashers appeared briefly in the episode "Untouchable Sonic" where they and other Badniks chased after Sonic underwater only to be caught in some seaweed.
