Mashers are successors of the Choppers and are heavily based on them. They have red metallic bodies with orange underbellies, stretching pelvic fins on each side, a white and orange dorsal fin and a white caudal fin. Like Choppers, their mouths are filled with serrated teeth and have big eyes with black dots for pupils and two metallic screws at their jaw joints.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Mashers made their first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where they are found jumping up and down the waterfalls in Emerald Hill Zone. Much like the Chopper, Mashers can only hit the player when the playable characters run into them when crossing the bridges. Otherwise, the Mashers can easily be defeated with the Spin Jump, Spin Attack or Spin Dash.
In Sonic Blast, an unnamed Badnik that looks identical to the Masher can be found jumping up and down at the waterfalls in Green Hill Zone in Sonic Blast. Unlike the Mashers from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, however, these Badniks do not have Animals inside of them.
Like Choppers, the Mashers' only attack is jumping from waterfalls in front of their target on the bridges while they keep waving their mouths. Usually smaller waterfalls have one Masher and bigger ones have two Mashers jumping on it.
