Mechanical Golem No. 5

Mecha Golem as it appears in Tails Adventure.

Mecha Golem 5-gou (メカゴーレム5号?)[1] is a recurring boss in Tails Adventure. Mecha Golems are large battlesuits created by Battle Kukku Empire which are piloted by Pilot Combatants. The Mecha Golem first appears as the third boss in Cavern Island and the fifth boss in Volcanic Tunnel.

Cavern Island

After working his way through the submarine labyrinth of the island, Tails come across a dark, secluded cave hosting one of the invading Battle Kukku Empire's most heavily armored combat mechs. As bulbous purple battlesuit, the Mecha Golem waddles backwards and forwards, periodically lashing out at Tails with its extensible arm and dislodging rocks from the cave roof.

The player should simply dodge the attacks and batter the mech with bombs. As the player deals more damage, the faceplate blows off, exposing the bedraggled Pilot Combatant. Further application of explosives destroys the machine and rewards Tails with the Anti-air Missile for his Sea Fox submarine.

If the player return to Cavern Island later in the game, he can still find the pile of scrap which was the Mecha Golem on the floor of the boss cave in perpetuity.

Volcanic Tunnel

Continuing in their tradition of stationing powerful combat robots at the bottom of isolated cave systems, the Battle Kukku Empire has another Mecha Golem in place in Volcanic Tunnel - ostensibly the second level, but Tails needs the Large Bomb to access it, which is found in Polly Mountain 2.

More like a static gun emplacement, this Mecha Golem simply sits in position, strafing the area with Vulcan cannon bullets. The player must fly over his head (or climb on top of its head) and drop more Large Bombs on top of him. The player can take the long route to the boss chamber which brings Tails out behind the robot. He is then able to lob Remote Bomb after Remote Bomb through a tiny fissure and thus take out the boss in complete safety.

As before, after enough damage has been done, the mech's faceplate blows off to reveals another Pilot Combatant. Once destroyed, this machine's wreckage remains forever. The player then flies through the now-open upper passage to pick up the Extra Armor upgrade for the Sea Fox.
