Megan Acorn, also simply known as Meg, is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She is a mobian squirrel, the wife of New Mobotropolis' ruler, King Elias Acorn, and the mother of his step-daughter Alexis. Because Meg is a commoner, she and any children she has with Elias are not eligible to rule the Kingdom of Acorn, but she didn't mind. She moved to New Mobotropolis with her family after Elias took the throne, but they subsequently returned to her birthplace of Feral Forest after Ixis Naugus came to power.
Meg is a mobian brown squirrel with green eyes and wavy dark brown hair. She typically appears in a more regal dress in light blue or purple, sometimes with a small gold tiara and pearls. Her hair was parted in the middle and her bangs somewhat flared out to make the style more distinct. Her tail alternates between long and bushy or short and upturned.
Meg was originally born and raised in a rural forest village in Feral Forest with her father; Joss, teaching her to be a strong-willed, courageous and self-sufficient individual. Meg had been married, but her first husband died at the hands of Dr. Robotnik's forces, leaving her widowed and pregnant.
The Prince and the Revolution
One day, a wandering traveler named Elias Acorn came to the village, and he and Meg developed feelings for each other. Meg fell in love with Elias, and agreed to marry him. Shortly before her daughter's birth, Elias's past finally caught up with him when Geoffrey St. John and Hershey the Cat crash-landed their plane near the village, having been sent to find the missing prince. Meg offered their home to the weary secret agents, but this led to them blowing Elias's cover. Not wishing to return with Geoffrey and Hershey, Elias planned to leave with Meg. Before Elias could take Meg away from the village, Dr. Eggman and his E-100 series machines attacked, taking them hostage, with Eggman ecstatic over not only capturing Elias's bride, but the King's grandchild as well. Thankfully Sonic the Hedgehog, Elias' sister Sally Acorn and the assembled villagers destroyed the E-100 army and drove Eggman away. Elias resolved to stay with Meg, and disclosed his past to her. Later, Meg gave birth to her child, who they named Alexis. (StH: #121, CSE)
Line of Succession
Later, when Sonic came to Elias to convince him to stop Sally's marriage to Antoine D'Coolette (really Patch in disguise), Meg convinced her reluctant husband to do so after he refused, as the transition of power could lead to treachery. When Elias arrived at Castle Acorn to announce his intention to take the throne, Patch, noting that Meg and Alexis did not accompany Elias, mentally planned to murder Elias, and later "dispose of" Meg and Alexis to ensure his succession to power. Eggman Empire and Cracking the Empire
The two were then captured when the Egg Fleet, at Eggman's command, destroyed Knothole in a massive assault and the population sent to the Egg Grape Chambers. While in captivity, Meg did her best to comfort her crying daughter, while at the same time bravely stared down Eggman in his rant about how inferior the House of Acorn had become, and, seeing Elias anguished over being called a weak and inferior king by Eggman, assured her husband she had married him for his strength and bravery.(StH: #175, #176)
Home, New Home
House of Cards
During Amadeus Prower's attempt for reform, Elias convinced Meg to take Alexis and allow herself to be secured by Nicole in the castle's nursery, so they would be spared any harm. Meg wasn't pleased with the notion but eventually gave in. Meg later left and joined the tea party in Elias's room when he and the rogue general were convinced by Sally to work out a deal: to create the Council of Acorn. (StH: #178, #179)
The trial of Geoffrey St. John and From the Shadow
Things were relatively peaceful for a time, but that peace was shattered when Dr. Eggman launched a new Death Egg and Sally was roboticized in disabling one of its potent weapons. Additionally, Ixis Naugus, aided by Geoffrey St. John, had arrived in New Mobotropolis, claiming to be the rightful king and demanding the crown. Through subtle manipulation via magic, he eventually won over the people of the Republic of Acorn, and Elias stepped down to prevent conflict. However, as Naugus claimed that he would uphold the law, Geoffrey was tried for treason; Meg attended the trial with a brooding Elias. With Naugus as king, Elias felt that his family was not safe and decided to move everyone back to Feral Forest; however, his parents refused to leave. Feeling he had no options, a frustrated Elias was consoled by Meg, who eventually admitted that she feared for his safety, saying that as she'd lost her first husband, she didn't want to lose him as well. (StH: #233)
The small family moved out as planned, traveling in the Mobo-Cruiser with the Knothole Freedom Fighters as escorts. However, Eggman-having been tipped off secretly by Naugus-attacked the convoy as it made its way towards Feral Forest with Egg SWATS, an incarnation of Metal Sonic v3.0, and worst of all Mecha Sally. The Freedom Fighters managed to keep the royal family safe, but Antoine was critically wounded when Metal Sonic self-destructed at point-blank range to him-an attack originally aimed at the Acorns. Shocked, the royal family moved on as their attackers and escorts departed, the former relishing their victory and the latter racing to get Antoine medical attention. (StH: #234)
Later, Eggman would make another attack on the family in Feral Forest, only for Team Fighters to arrive and spoil his plan. Meg and Alexis were left in the care of Elias' surrogate parents, George Sommersby and his wife Martha, while Elias departed in the company of Leeta and Larry Lynx, his new teammates in the Secret Freedom Fighters. Meg is a beautiful, gentle and loving woman, as evidenced by her behavior towards her husband and daughter. Though as a commoner turned queen she found herself surrounded by living legends, she felt that Knothole-and later New Mobotropolis-were the best places for her family to be. Though courageous, she recognizes the danger surrounding her family, and does her best to try and keep them together and safe.
Meg met Elias some time after the death of her first husband, and the two quickly bonded. She is Elias' greatest supporter, encouraging him even when he doubts himself the most. She also dislikes being kept out of things, only agreeing to being left behind by her husband at his greatest insistence. Meg helps Elias to maintain his grip on things in their turbulent life, providing a calming and comforting influence even in the midst of their greatest difficulty. Though she doesn't always agree with Elias' decisions, she does her best to be there for him, and losing him as she did her first husband is one of her greatest fears.
