[edit] Deep Power Stones
In SatAM, the Deep Power Stones were a pair of jewels used by Sonic and Sally to defeat Robotnik's Doomsday Project.
[edit] Planet Egg
Featured in the Sonic X series, Planet Eggs are gemstones of varying shape that embody the life force of a planet. Throughout the second season of the series, the Metarex are seeking the Planet Eggs as part of their plans to destroy all animal life in the galaxy so that plants may rule. As a result of their own Planet Egg being stolen, Sonic and co. board the Blue Typhoon and begin traveling around the galaxy in an effort to stop the Metarex.
Removal of a world's Planet Egg can have a variety of effects. On Sonic's homeworld, the plant life began to die out in a growing area once the Planet Egg had been extracted from Angel Island. On another occasion, the Planet Egg's harvesting turned a desert planet into a gigantic ocean. These effects were reversed after Sonic and co. recovered the Planet Egg, though they had to fight off two powerful Metarex in order to save the planet.
Another world became covered in ice when the Planet Egg was gone, a fact that greatly saddened Cosmo until the Egg was returned. Later, the gang of heroes found a world that had become overgrown by jungle. Using the Planet Egg of this world, Cosmo was able to communicate with the vegetation, but it went out of control as a result.
Some time later, the Blue Typhoon and Dr. Eggman arrived at a Metarex fortress. After making their way through the defensive gauntlet, they discovered a Planet Egg that had been enlarged by energy from two Chaos Emeralds. Unfortunately, a battle with the Metarex resulted in the Egg being jettisoned and lost.
Historical records on Cosmo's homeworld revealed that Dark Oak, the leader of the Metarex, had first discovered a way to use the Planet Eggs to stabilize the unnatural transformation process he and other male Seedrians were capable of. Because of this, the female Seedrians left their homeworld behind, thinking that the males would be destroyed. Instead, they survived, and built metal bodies to support their frail structures.
When all the combatants in the conflict reached Galactic Coordinates 000, the true plan of the Metarex was revealed. Using the Planet Eggs as a source of water and the Chaos Emeralds as a source of light, they planned to channel the energy from a breach in space time to destroy all animal life in the galaxy. Fortunately, their plans were thwarted, and after the Metarex were destroyed, the Planet Eggs were presumably returned to their rightful places.
[edit] Power Rock
A glowing green gemstone, the Power Rock is the source of the Power Rings found in SatAM and the Archie Comics. Created by Sonic's Uncle Chuck, the Power Rock produces one Power Ring every 12 hours. The rock itself is also a major power source.
[edit] Precioustone
The Dreamcast game Sonic Shuffle is set in a dream world known as Maginary World. In this world lays a mysterious stone known as the Precioustone, which keeps the Maginary World under control while residing in the Temple of Light. The Precioustone is shattered by Void, which causes Maginary World to fall into disaster. After being brought to the world by Lumina Flowlight, Sonic and friends then set out on a quest to find all the pieces of the Precioustone and repair it. Eggman also follows them as he wants to get his hands on the stone, but eventually the heroes repair the stone and leave Maginary World.
[edit] Time Stones
In Sonic CD, the seven Time Stones were used instead of Chaos Emeralds. These mysterious gems teleports the Little Planet through time, and as such it is only visible in the planet's atmosphere for one month out of every year. If Sonic collected all of the Time Stones, he could use their power to prevent Eggman from ever spreading his influence on the Little Planet, thereby ensuring a good future for the planet.
[edit] Sol Emeralds
These were the gems that Blaze needed to save her world in Sonic Rush.
[edit] Gems
In Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic can purchase items called Gems. The first three (Green, Blue, and Red) can be purchased after completing Tails' Wave Ocean. After you get past Sonic's Kingdom Valley, you can purchase the rest (White, Sky, Yellow, and Purple). The abilities are selected using the D-Pad, and activated by holding or pressing R1/Right Trigger. The gems change the color of Sonic's "Custom Shoes". The custom actions are Tornado Kick (green), Slow (red), Mach Speed (blue), Homing Smash (white), Gun Drive (sky), Thunder Guard (yellow), and Scale (purple). Here's what each custom action does:
- Tornado Kick: (5000 rings) Allows Sonic to create a tornado over him.
- Slow: (5000 rings) Slows everything in near proximity to Sonic.
- Mach Speed: (7000 rings) Allows Sonic to run faster than usual for a limited time (depending if R1/Right Trigger is pressed multiple times).
- Homing Smash: (8000 rings) When R1/Right Trigger is held in the mid-air, Sonic can spin around, choosing where he Air Dashes at.
- Gun Drive: (10000 rings) Allows Sonic to throw a gem and fly towards it after a few seconds, thought sometimes he won't. The longer R1/Right Trigger is pressed down, the farther he throws it.
- Thunder Guard: (12000 rings) Creates a shield around Sonic. It can block one attack, then disappears. It also attracts rings to Sonic.
- Scale: (14000 rings) Makes Sonic very tiny and allows him to jump infinitely.
[edit] Rings
[edit] Chaos Rings
The Chaos Rings were six powerful rings that appeared in Knuckles' Chaotix. According to the Japanese manual, the Rings were created by an ancient civilization and infused with Chaos Emerald energy. Doctor Eggman builds a base on the mysterious island where they were created in order to find the Rings, which are hidden in Special Stages. Throughout the game, the Chaos Rings are collected in the same way as the Chaos Emeralds usually are, and having all six by the end rewards the player with the "good ending".
The Chaos Ring storyline was largely unmentioned in the US manual, and instead Eggman was said to be trying to steal the "Power Emerald" from "Carnival Island". The Chaos Rings can still be collected, but are never explained.
[edit] Power Rings
- For information about rings in the video games, see Rings.
Despite being a gameplay feature in the video games, the Power Rings do not make as large an appearance in the animated shows. In "SatAM" and Sonic X, Sonic can absorb a ring to give him extra speed and power for a short while. In SatAM, they are found in a lake, which they are taken from by either Sonic or Tails (this is the only instance in the franchise where Sonic commonly wears a backpack for easy access). They are also used to restore free will those who were Roboticized. Also in this series similar Rings are used by Dr. Robotnik to incapacitate prisoners. In Sonic X, Rings are made from Chaos Emeralds and usually given to Sonic by Tails, apparently produced by a generator installed in the Tornado 2.
In the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics, the Power Rings are identical to those found in SatAM. However, the comics take it a step further, naming the Power Rings as a fifth element aside from the traditional ones of fire, water, air, and earth. Because of this, the Power Rings are eagerly sought after by the wizard Ixis Naugus. Massive quantities of Rings, gathered all at once or one at a time, can also produce a super transformation or other effects, such as communication with the Ancient Walkers.
A few children's novels and comic books claim that the rings were created by Sonic's Uncle Chuck to boost Sonic's speed and power.
[edit] Rings of Order
In the canceled title Sonic X-treme, the Rings of Order were seven magical rings guarded by Gazebo Boobowski and his daughter Tiara. Somewhat notable is the fact that "order" is the opposite of "chaos".
[edit] World Rings
The seven World Rings are a major plot point in Sonic and the Secret Rings. The evil Erazor Djinn used Sonic to get his hands on the rings, so that he could use them to conquer the Arabian Nights book. While his plan initially succeeded, Sonic used the Rings to transform into Darkspine Sonic after Erazor had used them to transform into the monstrous Alf Layla-wa Layla. The World Rings are colored in the same colors as the Chaos Emeralds, and their power requires a sacrifice to unlock. They make a cameo in Sonic and the Black Knight as collectible items in Legacy Stages.
[edit] Other
[edit] Sword of Light
Sir Connery of the Archie Comics carried a magical weapon known as the Sword of Light. Incredibly powerful, it could draw on the life force of its user for more powerful attacks.
[edit] Sacred Swords
The Sacred Swords appear in Sonic and the Black Knight. They consist of Caliburn, Sir Gawain's Galatin, Sir Lancelot's Arondight, Dame Percival's Laevatein, and King Arthur's Excalibur. During the first part of the story mode, Sonic defeats each of the knights in turn and takes their swords. After the second battle against the Black Knight, Sonic uses the power of the swords to nullify the Black Knight's immortality and finishes him. Later, the Sacred Swords (and Caliburn) are placed in shrines located in the four corners of Camelot to prevent the spread of Merlina's dark magic: unfortunately the barrier is not strong enough, and fails. Finally Sonic confronts Merlina in the Dark Hollow, while the knights and Nimue look on through Nimue's pool. When all hope is lost, Sonic still refuses to give in. On Nimue's command, the knights throw the Sacred Swords into the pool. Sonic merges with them and Caliburn and becomes Excalibur-Sonic, Caliburn transforming into the legendary Excalibur, before entering the final battle against Merlina.
