The Monolith was a deep space research vessel created by the echidnas of Albion. Roughly one thousands years

ago it was launched from planet Mobius to explore the local solar system. The only mentioned crew member of the Monolith was an echidna named Dave, who was investigating Saturn's moon of Europa at the time. Dave's exploration was chronicled in the book 2001: A Space Odyssey. (KtE: #30)

No exterior images of the ship were shown in the comics. Only one interior shot was shown of some kind of core chamber, which suggested the ship lacked an atmosphere.
