A view of the multiverse, that includes many planets like the earth, Planet Wisp, the Asteroid Coaster and Sweet Mountain, from Sonic Colors.

When it comes to the multiverse, anything is possible!

Miles "Tails" Prower, "TailsTube #4 (feat. Amy Rose)"

The multiverse[1] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a concept that refers to all of the alternate universes known to exist, the most famous of which being Sonic the Hedgehog's home universe.

Description[]

Allow me to explain. This world and Dr. Eggman's world exist in separate dimensions. Each of us can think of the other as what is known as a 'parallel universe.'

The multiverse is the collective name of all of the worlds that exist within separate dimensions. The amount of universes that exist is unknown, even possibly infinite. There all types of dimensions within the multiverse, and may possess similarities with other sister universes. Tails has hypothesized that Sonic, for example, may have an infinite number of alternate versions of himself because of the vastness of the multiverse.[1] Quantum universe hypothesis explains the existence of multiverse due to infinite possible events, meaning that if the multiverse is infinite, every possible scenario can be canon, but in a different dimension.

The existence of the multiverse and its dimensions is facilitated by the Power of the Stars, a force from the Sol Dimension that allows the creation of parallel universes.[2] This also makes it possible for various dimensions to have links with each other, such as the one between the Sol Dimension and Sonic's universe.[3]

NullSpace1

Null space, a reality of literal nothingness created by the Phantom Ruby,[4] from Sonic Forces.

It is unknown where the universes in the multiverse come from. However, artificial dimensions, such as the Sleeping Egg created by Dr. Eggman[5] or the Cyber Space created by the Ancients, are known to exist. Universes based entirely around literature works, including the world of the Arabian Nights and the world of Camelot from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, imply that actual dimensions based on fictional worlds are possible in the multiverse as well. In addition, certain artifacts of great power may give rise to new universes on their own, such as the null space created by the Phantom Ruby.[4] However, while it is known that new dimensions can come to life, the destruction of various universes at the same time is also possible by creating a tear in the spacetime continuum that can tamper with the fabric of reality.[6][7]

Travel between various dimensions in the multiverse is possible, but only thanks to certain objects such as the Chaos Emeralds,[8] the Sol Emeralds[9] and the Giant Rings, or magical beings like Shahra.[10] Portals to other universes exist too, and civilizations like Donpa Kingdom also have access to technologies that allow users to at least send messages across dimensions.[11]

The multiverse has sections. For example, the Shatterverse, a section of the multiverse, is consisted of dimensions created from the fragmentation of the Paradox Prism, known as Shatterspaces.

Sonic Boom[]

In the Sonic Boom franchise, the Multiverse is a concept that refers to the various alternate realities that exist alongside the Mirror Dimension. All of these dimensions are connected to each other through portals.[14] In the alternate dimension existing parallel to that of the Sonic Boom World and Mirror Dimension where Sonic the Hedgehog never existed, its native Eggman never encountered significant opposition in his conquest of the world as a result.

Books and Comics[]

Archie Comics[]

In Archie Sonic the Hedgehog, there are two phases of the Multiverse, the rewritten Multiverse and the original Multiverse:

NoZoneHDPreSuperGenesisWave

A display of various realities within the multiverse, from Sonic Super Special #10.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the multiverse was a concept referring to the various alternate realities known as "Zones" that existed alongside the Prime Zone. All of these Zones were connected to each other through a literal interdimensional highway called the Cosmic Interstate. The Cosmic Interstate and the multiverse in general were monitored by a group of transdimensional cops from the No Zone. In recent times, a war between the cops of the No Zone and the tyrant Dr. Eggman Nega resulted in heavy damage across the multiverse.

Reality itself ended by Super Sonic & Doctor Eggman's fight involving the Chaos Emeralds, causing the Super Genesis Wave and the collapse of the multiverse upon itself,[15] resulting in the energy directed to one universe.[16] Somehow, the Sol Zone remained unscathed and even the Wily Egg that caused the Super Genesis Wave found itself transported there.
