Munch Rat is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a mobian rat and a member of the Mercian Freedom Fighters.
Appearance[]
Munch is a mobian short, broad-shouldered brown rat with brown eyes. His muzzle and tail are peach. He wears a green tunic, a green cap, leggings, brown boots and heavy studded metal cuffs.
History[]
Chaotix Quest[]
With the Chaotix - Vector, Espio, and Charmy - fighting the Dark Egg Legion G.O.O.N.s, Munch and the other Mercian Freedom Fighters - Bow Sparrow, Thorn the Lop, Alan Quail, and Friar Buck - came in and help the Chaotix beat the enemies. After the fight, Bow was asked by Vector and Charmy if they had seen their friends, Mighty and Ray. With this, Bow looked at the group and commented yes, but not in sometime. After that, the Freedom Fighters go to the Hideaway to talk about Mighty and Ray coming to Merica in a search to find Mighty's sister. Bow had found Mighty destroying a Dark Egg Legion robot, and did not need help, unlike the Chaotix. And so, Mighty and Ray stayed at the hideaway and made a plan with the Mercian Freedom Fighters to sneak into Snottingham Castle the next night, thanks to Friar's notes that Mighty's sister was roboticized. The plan, failed, however, as the Dark Egg Legion attacked the forest. Mighty and Ray helped the Freedom Fighters defeat the foes, and soon enough, Bow told Mighty and Ray to leave to the fortress. Upon that information, Vector and Bow made a plan to sneak into the fortress to save the captured Deerwood Forest villagers and Mighty and Ray (if they were captured). And so, Munch and the others have sneaked into the fortress at this time. (SU #46)
Munch Rat, along with the Mercian Freedom Fighters, helped Mercian villagers escape the dungeon of Lord Hood's Fortress. However, Lord Mordred Hood and his minions ambushed them. The Mercian Freedom Fighters quickly defeated them, but Lord Hood hypnotized the heroes until Vector punched the snake in the back. Munch Rat and the others successfully escaped after being surrounded by G.O.O.N.s and even Lord Hood and his minions. (SU #47)
Personality[]
Munch is aggressive and enjoys a good fight, and speaks with a rougher dialect than his fellow Mercians. A bit rough around the edges, it is implied he is not all that quick-witted, but he is earnest. He often clashes with teammate Alan Quail, who mocks his somewhat uncultured nature, and is quick to respond to Alan's antics with anger. This is likely due to Munch having a more serious outlook, whereas Alan tends to be more upbeat and usually tries to provide levity in tense situations.
Powers and abilities[]
Munch is a powerful fighter, his favorite weapons being his sword and his super-strong teeth, either of which can cut through metal. While it is unknown if he possesses more than ordinary Mobian strength, he is certainly the burliest of the Mercian Freedom Fighters.
Trivia[]
- Munch is based on Much, the Miller's Son, a character from the legends of Robin Hood; in reference to this, his introductory caption in Sonic Universe #46 refers to him as "a miller's son".
