Muttski is the pet dog of Sonic the Hedgehog in the Sonic the Hedgehog TV series and comic by Archie Comics. Along with Uncle Chuck, Muttski was roboticized prior to Sonic joining the Freedom Fighters.

SatAMEdit

In Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), Sonic encountered Muttski while on a mission to Robotropolis with Tails. He was roboticized sometime prior to the first episode of the series, but his original animal form can be seen on a photograph that Sonic shows Tails. While roboticized, Muttski possesses razor sharp teeth which he uses to bite enemies. He is also able to shoot small objects from his mouth at great speed, which he also uses as a weapon.

Tails first spotted Muttski outside one of Doctor Robotnik's factories. He claimed that Muttski looked very "mean", which Sonic insisted was merely a product of the roboticization. Convinced that Muttski wouldn't hurt Sonic, since Sonic was Muttski's best friend, Sonic called to the dog. However, Muttski was under Robotnik's control and immediately attacked Sonic, biting him on the tail. Sonic immediately called Muttski a "bad dog", saying "You sit, you stay, you don't bite! Understand?" Surprisingly, Muttski immediately obeyed Sonic's instruction, presumably as a result of the four years of obedience school that Sonic had put him through. This allowed Muttski's original, friendly personality to reassert itself, and his eyes changed from glowing red to white. Sonic and Muttski were able to spend a happy but fleeting moment together, before Robotnik's programming again took hold and Sonic was forced to flee. Sonic vowed not to rest until he found a way to return him and all the other roboticized citizens to normal again. Muttski wasn't seen again since.^[1]

Archie ComicsEdit

In the comic series, Muttski has a much larger role. Muttski was one of Sonic's more feared antagonists, because Sonic did not wish to harm his faithful pet. Eventually, Muttski was freed from Robotnik's control, and took up residence in Knothole, once again becoming Sonic's close companion. Like all of the roboticized Mobians except Jules Hedgehog and the partially roboticized Bunnie Rabbot, Muttski was deroboticized by the Bem. An interesting development: during Sonic's time spent in space (six weeks to him, a year to everyone else) he received an implant that allowed him to understand and speak to aliens. Back home, the implant now allows him to speak with Muttski and understand what he's saying. Muttski's abilities are those of the average dog, though his speed and strength were enhanced by his robotization. Muttski's closest friend besides Sonic is the hedgehog's adoptive "brother" Tails. This is proven true when the two spend a day together.
