Never Turn Back by Crush 40 (Closing Theme of Shadow the Hedgehog)

Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa, yeah, yeah! (Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!)
It's been a long, rough road
And I'm finally here
I move an inch forward
Feels like a year
Everything I feel
Seems so unreal
Is it true?
Is it true?
I take one step forward, and two steps back
Got a hundred-thousand pounds
Sitting on my back
Up, down, all around
Don't know quite what to do
To get through
But I'm on my way
On my way
On my way
On my way
Here I am (Here I am)
Made it to
The end of you
Never had a chance while I'm around (No, No)
No, No, No, No
And now I'll never turn back (I'll never turn back)
I'll never turn that way
No matter how life tries to face me
I turn the other way
Now and then (Now and then)
My head starts to spin (Starts to spin)
But I'll never turn back....again! (No, No)
From this moment on (Moment on)
I am moving on (Moving on)
And I'll never turn back!
(No!)
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
I guess I'm doing alright
And I'm on my way
Facing every moment
Day by day
Take a chance, slip on by
Got no time to answer why
Head straight
Head straight
What will I become if I don't look back?
Give myself a reason, for this and that
I can learn
No U-turn
I will stay right here
Where I'm at
Where I'm at
But I'm on my way
On my way
On my way
On my way
Here I am (Here I am)
Made it to
The end of you
Never had a chance while I'm around (No, No)
No, No, No, No
And, now I'll never turn back (I'll never turn back)
I'll never turn that way
No matter how life tries to face me
I turn the other way
Now and then (Now and then)
My head starts to spin (Starts to spin)
But I'll never turn back...again! (No,No)
From this moment on (Moment on)
I am moving on (Moving on)
And I'll never turn back!
No!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!
I’ll
I’ll
I'll never turn back!

Connection to Game

  • It's been a long rough road, and I'm finally here - Shadow remembering who he was at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog.
  • Is it true? - Shadow not knowing who is telling the truth about his past and who he is.
  • Got a hundred-thousand pounds sitting on my back - Shadow carrying the weight of the whole world OR Super Shadow transporting the Black Comet into space and throwing it into the range of the Eclipse Cannon.
  • Don't know quite what to do to get through - Shadow unsure of who to trust and who is telling the truth.
  • Made it to the end of you - Shadow defeating the Devil Doom .
  • Never had a chance, while I'm around - Shadow faced impossible odds, but still came out on top OR Shadow being the Ultimate Lifeform and nothing could defeat him.
  • From this moment on I am moving on, and I'll never turn back - Shadow decides to let go of his past.
  • One step forward, and two steps back - When Shadow is so close to remembering his past he gets sent backwards again.
  • Up, down, all around - Shadow's choice of who to believe about his identity OR Shadow needing to "keep moving" to find out who he is.

Trivia

  • If I Am... All of Me can be seen as Black Doom's opinion of himself and Shadow's perspective of the game's events, then Never Turn Back can be seen as Shadow's response to that and vice versa.
  • The piano intro of the song is similar to the chorus of I Am... All of Me. The piano intro is actually the final song in the game called I Am... The Story Is Over.
  • There is a stray piano key that is played just as the drums come in after the piano intro
  • The song itself is a hard rock song that is typical to the band's style, but instead of a guitar riff at the beginning like most of their songs, it opens with lead singer Johnny Gioeli singing "Whoa-oh, whoa-oh, oh, yeah!"
  • The chorus bears more than a passing resemblance to an unused track from Sonic & Knuckles Collection.
  • One step forward, and two steps back is the same line used in I Am All Of Me.
